EVE Online Launcher
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 22, 2013
As some of you in the linux Eve online community will no doubt know, CCP upgraded EVE's launcher and it's stopped working.
I'm still about to login using
wine "C:\Program Files\CCP\Eve\bin\exefile.exe"
wine "C:\Program Files\CCP\Eve\repair.exe"
to do the updates.
When I run the normal launcher though, it starts, but there's no EULA text or logon buttons. Image
Anyone got it working?
EVE Online client freezing on Ubuntu 11.04 via Wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 5, 2011
I installed EVE on Ubuntu 11.04 according to [this] link, successfully logged in, but the client freezes seconds after I log in. Any hints?
Also, I installed EVE in my home directory in Ubuntu, could this cause any problems? Where should I have installed it?

Has anyone tried? (EVE Online)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 17, 2007
I just found that EVE Online has a Client for UBUNTU users.
However I wonder if someone has tried this client and if they have compared this to running EVE in Wine. Is there any difference or is it the same FPS?
There is also a new update to EVE Online with improved graphics and that was called Trinity. Does this LINUX client update this also?
I will browse for more answers here but any assistance to clear up this would help.
EVE online Ubuntu Corporation

I decided to try this game out because CCP offers a free Linux wrapper. The .deb that you can install just works great, and installing the windows version via wine works even better after you place the ariel.ttf into the wine drive fonts folder. Anyway, this was a HUGE move by CCP to reach out to the Linux community, and so I supported them on it. Anyway, never having given a space based game a go, I figured I would be in for a mixed bag with a very steep learning curve. The learning curve is a bit steep at first, but there is tons of things to do and many paths you can choose, so there never is a dull moment as there always is with most of the MMORPG's ive tried (WoW, DAOC, Guild Wars, etc.). Also, the game is totally open PVP based, which is a definite plus because that adds an even better element.
Do you Ubuntu fans play or have you tried out EVE? Are you willing to give it a shot on the 14 day credit cardless free trial now that they offer a .deb client?..
I hope you all do.
Star Trek Online launcher unresponsive

I have been trying to get STO to run under wine. I installed wine 1.5.22, and then typed winetricks ie8. I got an error saying that it was not compatable with my 64-bit system, but it seemed to install correctly. I then typed winetricks ie7, as some forums said having 7 helped. same error, seemed to work as before. I ran ie and it worked, so that seemed good. I then used winetricks to install directx9 and a few other things forums suggested. All seemed good. downloaded installer. wouldn't run. ran installer with
GC_DONT_GC=1 wine ST.25.20121026a.8_EN.exe
and it ran fine, but got "too many file open" errors twice and had to restart, fortunately the download continued where it left off each time. It then installed error free. now the problem. I ran the game. the launcher appeared. It looked perfect. I typed in my user/password. I clicked login. nothing happened. in fact, nothing is clickable on the whole launcher except the text fields! The enter key fails as well. Wir
Gaming EVE Online Ubuntu Software Centre
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 23, 2015
I currently use PlayOnLinux, Ubuntu 14 and some resources like this to run EVE Online.
However, it used to run natively on Linux and still currently has a Mac client.
I was wondering if anyone knows the process or can point me in the right direction for how EVE can be listed on Ubuntu's Software Centre?
If I can serve up a solution to the developers, save them some research then perhaps it would happen.
(Looking at my OS icon? Two machines )
Thanks in advance.
Create New Launcher in Gnome 3
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 16, 2011
After long search and a lot of ways to create launcher I find best way to do so.
1. Install Gnome-Tweak -> in 'Desktop' tab turn on option 'Have file manager handle the desktop'
2. create script with 'gedit' with code
gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/ --create-new
3. Save with name "Create New Launcher".
4. Mark the file as executable (Right click -> properties-> Permissions -> Mark 'Allow execute file as a program' ).
5. place the file in home/user_name/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts (to see hide folders Ctrl+h).
I don't know how to correctly write script, but its work just fine for me.
[SOLVED] Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix Launcher... not launching
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 19, 2011
I installed this version of ubuntu on my netbook about a month ago. This problem is probably something really simple, but I just started using this system, so I don't have the hang of this completely. Today, when I turned my netbook on the launcher menu that is supposed to show up, didn't. It doesn't come up when I click the ubuntu icon in the upper left corner. I can still open applications by pressing alt-F2, so I know that it still works in general.
Launcher 12.04 vs 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 14, 2012
In 11.10 the launcher used to hide when a window is open but when no window is open it stayed displayed. Since I upgraded to 12.04 (and changed the setting) I can not achieve this behavior any more. It will either always hide or it will always stay displayed - constantly. Does anybody know how to revert launcher to 11.10 behavior? Stay displayed when there are no windows open but hide when I push a window close to it or maximize a window.
