Steam: Team Fortress 2 wont launch, problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 15, 2013
As said, game wont launch.
At first it showed Valve logo and and another one, then it just went back to desktop, without any error message.
Googled a bit
Did all updates via "Software Updater" --> no difference
Installed AMD Catalyst Control Center (via "Synaptic Package Manager"). Some suggested installing AMD Catalyst™ 12.11 Beta Driver. When I installed AMD Catalyst Control Center, does it mean I have the driver now or not? I tend to quess, not.
Now it wont show even Valve logo and just stays in desktop, it flickers some Steam message like "Preparing to launch..." for a millisecond and thats all.
also "Left 4 Dead 2 Beta" wont lauch - flickers screen for a millisecond
...but "Day of Defeat" runs well and also ran well before.
Non-Steam game like "King Arthur's Gold" also runs well.
How to troubleshoot this problem?

Team Fortress 2 Crash
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 27, 2008
I have recently converted from WinXP Pro to Ubuntu 8.04 after reading up on improvements made to wine (I have dabbled with Linux often in the past, several distros, but I kind of grew attached to Ubuntu 6.10. Gaming kept me on WinXP though).
Installation of Ubuntu, wine, steam and TF2 was flawless. I read up on the graphics issues and sorted all my problems out. Or so I thought.
I can boot TF2 up as normal, look through server lists as normal, and connect as normal. I get the game statistics and the usual load bars, but at the end of all these everything goes wrong.
The "Retrieving Server Info" load bar is fine, as is the "Sending Client Info" but as soon as the Client Info bar is full and I'd expect to enter the game, TF2 crashes and just shuts itself down.
Some Clarification on what my setup proces was etc:
I installed 8.04 from the liveCD.
I installed major updates
I installed the propriety graphics drivers for my graphics card
I made sure Desktop Ef
[SOLVED] Team Fortress 2 on multiple monitors
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 29, 2008
So I got Team Fortress 2 (TF2) installed and working on my system. Surprisingly, it works pretty well. I'm running a multiple monitor setup, specifically a 22" WS and a 19".
When I start up TF2, it occasionally gives me some errors regarding some registry, but other times it works just fine.
I cannot change the resolution of the game. It is set to play in windowed over my entire desktop. What results is the "center" of the screen being a few inches away from the center. Not exactly optimal for a FPS. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Team Fortress 2 boosting performance help?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 18, 2010
TF2 runs like crap right now, so here's what I've got on my todo list so far:
Start it in a separate x-server: Got to figure out how to do this.
Configure it so Compiz turns off when it runs: Should help a little.
Run it in opengl mode: No idea if this will help, or if it's even possible, but I figured since it runs for macs now, it should be possible.
Turn all the settings on low: Don't want to have to do this, since it ran fine on Windows, but it seems to be a necessity. I really wish ATI would actually support their linux market >_<
Update Drivers. I've heard that the open source drivers actually run better than the proprietary ones in certain situations, so I'm going to experiment. Either way, I'll probably be running the latest version of whatever driver I choose.
Got any more performance tweaks I could do, or any comments on the ones I'm going to attempt?
Team Fortress 2 Graphics problems?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 11, 2014
Let me preface this with saying that I am nearly entirely new to Linux.
Today I downloaded the native version of Steam and it runs great (to my surprise). So I decided to download TF2 through this. When I hit play, the Valve logo appears and it starts up fine, but at the menu I only see the buttons with the text(Training Mode and the others), but the background picture is non-existent. When I join a server(which I can do), I can see the characters, but they don't have color. They're grey. The world is mostly black, with random spurts of color like the outline of the bomb is blue. I can TECHNICALLY play with it, but its basically unplayable. Any ideas?
When I run lspci, this is my video card (I believe): VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
When running in windows mode, it says OpenGL. I don't know if it's a problem with that?
Please be patient with me. Thanks for your time.
