mdadm cannot remove failed drive, drive name changed.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 17, 2010
Hello everyone, i am setting up a software raid6 for the first time. To test the raid i removed a drive from the array by popping it out of the enclosure. mdadm marked the drive as F and everything seemed well. From what i gather the next step is to remove the drive from the array (mdadm /dev/md0 -r sdf), when i try this i receive the error:
mdadm: cannot find /dev/sdf: No such file or directory
That is true, when i plugged the drive back in the machine now recognizes it as /dev/sdk. My question is how do i remove this non-existent failed drive from my array as i was able to re-add it just fine as /dev/sdk with mdadm /dev/md0 -a /dev/sdk
Also, is there any way to define a drive based on id or something similar to the same drive name to avoid this? Thank you for any help in advance!

I am using Linux Mint 15. When I give the following command, it gives error:

Last night I attempted to install the PulseAudio Equalizer. It appears that i followed some old instructions, because the repository does not seem to exist.

Long story sort, I found updated info and downloaded a .deb...installed just fine. Problem is, I cant update now because apt-get hangs on the 404'ed ppa.
I downloaded a package called ppa-purge which promised to remove and purge my bunk ppa.
sudo ppa-purge ppa:psy
Cannot Delete File with Backslash in Filename
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 7, 2011
Ubuntu 10.04 Guest in VirtualBox
I'm trying to delete a file called
rm -i *
which gives me:
rm: cannot remove `springlobby_config\\.h': No such file or directory
Tried to rename it:
mv * abc
which gives me:
mv: cannot stat `springlobby_config\\.h': No such file or directory
I'm no pro with bash so any help here is appreciated. I don't think it's a permissions issue because usually the terminal would say permission denied, but perhaps I'm wrong.
Cannot Remove Volume Group Icon from Desktop
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 16, 2005
I'm using Gnome 2.6 on SuSE 9.2. I have a volume icon to my dvd-rom drive on my desktop. The first time I mounted a disk it created 2 "mirror" volume group links. I know have 3 volume icons on my desktop that all point to the save device. How do I remove the extra 2 and keep this from happening again? I tried using the GConf editor to modify the preferences under Nautilus, but the only option is to turn on/off the desktop. I still want my other icons, just not the cloned ones. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cannot remove items from Applications Menu Gnome 3 / Fedora 15
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 19, 2011
Hello, today I have installed Fedora 15 with the new Gnome 3. I have downloaded and installed all the updates as well.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to remove items from the Applications menu. I have installed alacarte (aka the "Main Menu" settings program), which is the typical suggestion when people ask about this, but even if I uncheck items in alacarte they still appear in the Applications menu.
I also read somewhere that you can delete items from ~/.local/share/applications but there are only three items in there for me (and about 20 items I want to remove from the Applications menu).
Finally, I found this thread on another forum, but following those steps only broke things more.
Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
Cannot delete file
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 2, 2010
Hi guys, I have a folder that is hard (impossible) to delete, it's not about permissions, what happens is that the system tells me this file does not exist at all, but I see the icon there.
Something curious is that this file has a little black square with a "?" inside, I have another file (in the trash can) with this questionmark and guess what.. I cannot delete it either.
I tried logging in directly to the terminal and tried to rm -R and same thing happens, it says file does not exist.
I am using kubuntu 9.10, this is a screenshot of the problem, hope you got a solution for this.
CUDA C Compilation & Object File Execution Error

I am a beginner in CUDA - C and this is my very first post here. I need some help in compiling c code for CUDA. I wrote a simple program given below and after compiling I got few error messages mentioned below.
__global__ void kernel(void)
int main (void)
Compilation 1: head is the executable and when I tried to run it I got error message - permission denied. I am unable to understand this.
[abc@xyz cuda_c]$ nvcc -c -o head hello_world.cu
[abc@xyz cuda_c]$ ./head
-bash: ./head: Permission denied
Compilation 2: In this compilation some files could not be found.
[abc@xyz cuda_c]$ nvcc hello_world.cu
