How stable is Arch Linux?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 16, 2010
I installed Arch linux and I've been using it only for a few days, so I don't have much experience with it. I see that it is one of the most bleeding edge distros, with always the latest packages. I think that this can cause stability problems, so my question is does it really cause? So how often does it happen that after an upgrade something doesn't work?
I know that only one version of a package can be installed, so if something goes wrong, the user can't do anything else, but waiting for the developers to release a fixed version. How long does it take?

Learning linux severs: Red Hat or Centos ?
location: linux.com - date: April 26, 2011
Hi there, I have a question, please. I'm new to linux and I'm learning with unix academy training DVDs. The training comes bundled with many Linux distros, and I initially installed and been using Ubuntu for my lessons (it was a random choice). I do have IT experience, but not with Linux (databases, app servers, win admin). I know that Red Hat is most widely used, when it comes to large scale enterprise installations.
Now I'm stuck in a confusion: is CentOS really the same as Red Hat, and could it be used for training for Red Hat? Are these two absolutely identical?
ALSA vs OSS Digital sound cards

I would like to know what your guys takes on this is ALSA Drives is on all of the big players distros like Ubuntu & Open Suse and the dont come with a OSS driver at all and i think this is bad as OSS has better support for Digital sound cards than ALSA dose at the moment. Just post back what you think ALSA vs OSS when it comes to digital sound

VPS: Ubuntu or other?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 25, 2011
Buying a VPS soon. I'll have a choice of OS so I was thinking about Ubuntu. My friend runs Ubuntu on his dedi and he says it beats the rest by far... But I've heard CentOS is better in some ways. Advice? My VPS will have 512MB of RAM, 20GB HDD and 1TB bandwidth.
[SOLVED] Grub Error with Mint Debian over Ubuntu 12.04 with Win7 Dual Boot Grub Error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 28, 2013
There has been alot of speculation over the spyware included with Ubuntu which makes me uncomfortable to use it anymore.
I currently have a system with Win7 and Ubuntu 12.04
I have decided to install Linux Mint Debian Mate 32bit over the Ubuntu installation.
The process i assumed would be to install over Ubuntu and write a new Grub loader but unfortunately that has not seemed to work. If i re install Ubuntu the Grub is back with my Win7 installation aswell but when installing Mint i get a "Grub not Found" error.
Additionally while installing Mint they ask me to install the Bootloader which i have tried on
The partition layout is as follows:
sda1 = Win7 system partition
sda2 = Win7
sda3 = Ubuntu ( Which i am trying to overwrite with Linux)
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated,
If there is anything that i have missed or not explained please don't hesitate to let me know.
switch to debian... stable or testing ?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 29, 2011
I've been using ubuntu for some time & I'm very conservative about installing new systems if all goes well. (I still use 9.10)
Reading about where ubuntu is going I'm thinking of trying Debian next time I reinstall. However, I'm not quite sure what the differences are between stable & testing versions...
* Are they both "rolling"?
* Do I understand correctly that "rolling" means constant package updates?
I'm looking for a system that "just works" on both my desktop & netbook which are a couple of years old with no exotic hardware.
