disabling full screen mode for games in WINE
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 22, 2003
I have successfull INSTALLED several games using WINE but would like to know how to disable full screen mode and force games to open in an Xwindow. I suppose it isnt successful if it doesnt run correctly but they are starting and changing my resolution and freezing. I think if i can run them in an Xwindow then I can see error messages, etc.

Downloading nonlinux steam games?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 16, 2014
Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a way to download steam games that aren't specifically linux games? As in, for example downloading CS:GO to see if I can get it to work in wine?
Steam Games not loading
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 17, 2014
I recently switched from Mint to Ubuntu 12.04 running MATE 1.6.0. When I was on Mint I was able to easily play games using Steam on WINE. Now that I am on Ubuntu I am able to start up games, but they crash during the opening credits and loading screens. I tried to verify the integrity of game files and after updating the games the problem still occured. It also occurs with WINE 1.7.8 and 1.7.10. I have attached a text file with a registry dump after Sacred 2 crashed. Does anybody have suggestions for how to get Steam working again?
Steam Games Inoperable
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 28, 2013
To make this short, I am new to Ubuntu. I installed Steam but it is not running any of the games. When I run the game (TF2, Counter Strike Source, DOTA 2), no error is presented, and the computer briefly opens up an invisible window that gets closed and then proceeds as if nothing ever happened. Does that make sense? Basically, nothing happens.
I researched the issue for a time, but found a lot of similar problems without any direct solution. I apologize if this has been hammered out over and over again, but I'm afraid I'll do something damaging to my computer if I navigate the multitude of fixes I've seen (hence the reason I'm posting my specific problem right here).

Steam games location

Has anyone tried to use an NFS or SAMBA share to store and play their steam games from? Currently my games are located in the default location which is ~/.local/share/Steam and my home partition is very small. I have read that I can just close steam, move the entire Steam folder to another drive/partition and then symlink to it BUT I am wondering if it would work over a 100Mbit LAN using an NFS or SAMBA share? If not I can understand that the write/read speed is just not up to par to play a game over my LAN but I also want other's feedback about the symlink solution to moving ones steam games to another partition.
If the LAN idea won't work, do you think a USB2.0 connected drive formatted as ext4 would suffice?

Which Steam games have you bought BECAUSE of Linux support?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 29, 2013
We (Linux users) should be incredibly thankful to Valve - they are the ones spending money on Linux games, and taking a risk. Other publishers will follow them only if their risk pays off, and a reasonable Linux game market is established.
As individuals the most help we can give is to buy games. Preferably purchases that we wouldn't have made if the games weren't available for Linux.
Which games have you bought because of Steam's Linux support, that you would otherwise not have bought for Windows, and which games do you plan to buy when available that you wouldn't buy for Windows?
I've already bought:
Half Life (Pathetic I know - it's only about $3! I am a broke student without a job though...)
I will buy:
Half Life 2
Left 4 Dead 3
Remember, don't include any games that you would have bought for Windows!
