64bit OS Does Not See All RAM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 7, 2015
Installed LinuxMint 17 64bit ver2 on Dell Optiplex 210L. 64bit P4, Hyperthreading enabled = running in 64bit mode. New Crucial 4 GB RAM (2 - 2GB sticks), Onboard video - Video Memory Size Is set at 8 MB. I only have 3 GB RAM available. Setup sees 4 GB of RAM. Since I am running 64 bit OS all of the RAM should be available. Is there something about the 64 bit P4 that is causing this problem? What else could be using all that RAM?

PAE kernel does not see all 4GB of RAM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 5, 2010
I've just installed the linux-generic-pae package, and I've checked the GRUB menu, that kernel gets loaded, but I still see only 3GB of RAM. BIOS says I have 4GB.
I'm on Karmic, 2.6.31-19-generic-pae kernel.

Laptop does not detect all 4GB RAM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 18, 2009
Hi there
I have installed Ubuntu Intrepid on my work laptop (HP 6530p). I then discovered that it only detects about 2.9GB of my total of 4.0GB primary memory?
Can Ubuntu only detect 3 GB of Mem?
Thanks
x8664 kernel on Fedora 11 does not see 4 GB RAM

I just installed Fedora 11 with kernel 2.6.29.4-167.fc11.x86_64 on my
G31M-S motherboard (Intel G31 + ICH7 chipsets) with Intel Quad-core CPU and 4 GB RAM.
-The motherboard manufacturer's manual claims that the chipset can handle RAM up to 8 GB.
-The BIOS setup correctly detects the 4 GB RAM but after Linux boots the system detects only 2.9 GiB.
Below is the relevant section of my "dmesg" output if someone is not afraid of digging in.
Is this a BIOS limitation?
Should I upgrade the BIOS?
Any ideas or solutions?
Thanks.

Grub does not see Fedora
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 8, 2011
So close yet so far! OK, so the game plan was to multi boot Windows 7, Fedora 15, and Ubuntu 11.04. I attempted this before, and even got help from the this forum, but was still not able to get it all working. I have Windows 7 install on my first HDD. I just installed Fedora 15 on my second HDD a few hours ago. And just finished installing Ubuntu 11.04 on my third HDD a few minutes ago. Fedora installed fine and was able to see Windows 7. But when I installed Ubuntu, it again could see Windows but not see Fedora. I was hoping that by re-installing Fedora and Ubuntu, in that order, that Grub2 would overwrite Grub and be able to see both Windows and Fedora but no such luck. I again have ran the boot info script and here are my results this time:
Code:
Boot Info Script 0.60 from 17 May 2011

[SOLVED] OpenShot does not see codecs
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 21, 2011
I have OpenShot 1.1.3 installed on my Debian Squeeze.
I want to export my project to Youtube-HD format. When I try this, whatever I select in Video Profile and Quality, I get error message that codecs libx264 and libmp3lame are missing. I have downloaded them from http://debian-multimedia.org and installed .deb's. Libmp3lame required dependency package libmp3lame0, which I also installed.
But OpenShot error is still here? What have I done wrong?
Ubuntu 2.6.3232generic #62 SMP 2011 x8664 does not see my iPhone 3GS docked by USB
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 24, 2011
Hello, I am running Ubuntu Linux 2.6.32-32-generic #62 SMP 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux and it used to see my IPhone 3GS version 4.3.3(8J2), but ever since I ran new kernel update, it does not see my iPhone when plugged in via USB port. The USB port works because it charges, however Ubuntu does not know its even docked.
I did various searches and found old posts, but was wondering if anyone else ran across this problem and has found a reliable solution.
Thanks,
