DSL does not see my WIFI adapter
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 17, 2010
I have an Averatec laptop with 1.39 ghhrz, 224 ram and 27.9 gb hard drive and an S3 Graphic ProSavage DDR.
I burned an ISO of DSL and it booted from Cd with no problem but I noticed as it loaded my USB peripherals it did not recognize my D-Link DWL G122 usb Wifi adapter.
I used the Prism2 as was suggested on the Damn Small Linux Wikki and put in the proper SSID, Channel and WEP Key but there it still would not connect to the internet.
When I used Puppy Linux, it recognized my D-Link WIFI adapter right away but my computer didn't have enough ram to run Puppy with out it freezing or randomly closing an internet session when running from the cd.
I would like to get DSL up and running because I am tired of all the viruses that sneak in and mess up this old computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please remember that I am new and am not even sure how to make a partition or Swap partition and many other terms I have been reading about.
Really need to know how to get DSL to r
Grub2 does not see other linux distros
- date: August 10, 2012
Grub2 has been acting strangely over the last 2-3 weeks. I have 12.10 installed on a laptop with two other distros and I installed the 12.10 grub2 as the bootloader.
Basically, grub sometimes sees and sometimes does not see one of distros (on sda3) and never sees the other one (on sda1). Quantal itself is on sda5.
I wrote a couple of very rudimentary scripts custom entries in /etc/grub.d and if I press Shift to open the boot menu I can access sda1. Sda3 refuses to boot so there's something wrong with that script.
Here's the result of fdisk:
:~$ sudo fdisk -l

lmsensors does not find all sensors / solved !
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 21, 2010
I would like to use lm-sensors with my new PC.
With my old one lm-sensors showed all sensors of CPU, GPU, wattage and Fan.
With the new AMD64 (kernel 2.6.32-5 on Debian Squeeze) I get only the temperature of the GPU and the HDD.
The only found sensor is "Fintek F71882FG/F71883FG Super IO Sensors"
No embedded "AMD [...] thermal sensors" found in sensors-detect
How can I fix it?
Lucid not showing all RAM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 31, 2010
I have a Dell Inspiron 1764 with 4GB of RAM. I have Win7 and Lucid as a dual boot. My processor is quad core Intel Core i5 M430 @2.27GHz. The problem is that I should show 4GB of RAM but the Ubuntu side only shows 2.9GB and the readout on conky shows 2.88GB. Why is this? Is Ubuntu not utilizing all available RAM? Your input would be most appreciated.

Debian Squeeze Connman Does not see network Interfaces
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 24, 2011
Howdy All -
I'm using Debian Squeeze with backports turned on and I've installed connman and it cannot see my wireless networking interface. I know my wireless card has a working driver because I have WICD on the same system and it connects just fine.
I am using the Enlightenment desktop though and it only integrates with the connman wireless manager - so I would prefer to use this instead of WICD. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get connman working? What extra configuration needs to be done after installing?
I added my user to have the same permissions as root to the /etc/dbus-1/system.d/connman.conf file and I added my tiwlan0 to /etc/network/interfaces as a DHCP connection with no changes in functionality :-/. Been searching around online and reading man pages for the last couple days with no good results. Any input would be awesome!
Thanks in advance,
Installer does not see partition table?
- date: December 25, 2013
Hey everyone, pretty new to Ubuntu / Linux in general. I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 off my USB stick onto my laptop to dual boot against Windows 7. I've scoured the forum and the internet in general to solve this, but can't figure it out for the life of me.
When I initiate the installer, I am never prompted for the "Installation type". I am instead directly taken to a partition table, in theory to select where I would like to put the OS. However, there is no partition table! Which seems weird because I can see everything under GParted.
Below is some terminal stuff that a lot of other posts request.

Ubuntu 11.04 PC does not see Windows 7 PC and vice versa
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 18, 2011
Thank you in advance. I have given the details of my installation so the exact sequence is given.
In summary, to start with, my ubuntu 11.04 desktop with Samba shares cannot see my Windows 7 PC, it can not see a Lacie NAS drive; my Windows 7 PC cannot see the ubuntu PC. File sharing is enabled.
I installed ubuntu 11.04 on a old HP Pentium 4 desktop that was running Win XP.
My intention was to get experience with this amazing free software, use Samba, and then make a NAS box with updated hardware.
I had windows xp on primary HDD that was 160 GB and I had installed Seagate 500 GB Barracuda as a Slave HDD. The 500 GB disk was fresh out the box unformatted. It was appropriately recognized by the BIOS.
Ubuntu 11.04 was on dvd and I instructed it to install to the 500 GB HDD. I accepted the ext4 as the file system and checked the format box and one single partition use whole disk.
My intent was to change boot sequences between primary HDD with XP and Slave HDD for ubuntu f
