Hi everyone. Was wondering if anyone else has run across something like this dual booting or has advice. I dual boot Ubuntu 11.10, and Windows XP. It worked GREAT, I can read-write to windows. but Windows got a horrible trojan I can't fix (I was dumb and didn't update java - learned my lesson the hard way). I went to factory reset, like normal. I went to the partition it's on but it can't "find" the file required. So I can't factory reset Windows. I can't get into windows without it crashing within one minute, if I can get it up at all (even safe mode). So I really want to factory reset. I can access all files from Ubuntu so I'm ok in that sense but... I want my computer working fully again. Any advice or previous experiences like this? What might be causing this?

11.10 update manager and softwarecenter not working

Hi everyone i'm running ubuntu 11.10 and i'm trying to update in the update manager and install a program in the software center. But it won't work, it fails every time and i've tried EVERYTHING. Upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04. Webapps not working.

I just upgraded my 12.04 box to 12.10. I have a few problems: 1) In 12.04 I added google's repo to install chrome. Web apps are not working with chrome for me right now 2) I installed chromium from the software center. Web apps are not working from chromium 3) I opened gmail from firefox. It almost looked like webapps were going to work with firefox as I got a popup from gmail to enable desktop functionality. However, I don't get a gmail icon in sidebar, and none of the webapp integration is present on my ubuntu! 4) I saw in a youtube video that gimp was integrated with unituy apps and that the dashboard would give me extra functionallity.. This isn't present in my install How can I get the unity apps/ web apps to work? This was the feature I was looking forward to the most!

Ubuntu Studio 8.10: Wired Internet/USB ports not working correctly

Hi I am new to linux and ubuntu studio and when I installed in onto my computer and plugged up the ethernet cable the internet does not work. I looked the helper things and it said that wired internet shouldnt require any sort of setup to work. Also when i plug the external hard drive with all of my stuff on it it says unable to mount volume. When I follow the directions using the terminal to force it and detect a problem it does not show a problem. I was really excited about using ubuntu and these problems are starting to kill the excitement. Please advise me!

Lubuntu upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04 DNS not working

Hello, I upgraded my Lubuntu 12.04 (which was working fine) to 12.10 today and I've encountered the following problem: DNS does not seem to be working correctly, it looks like the DNS settings I set in Network-Manager are not saved/used correctly. If I type Code: nslookup www.google.com in a terminal window I get a timeout. If I type Code: nslookup www.google.com 8.8.8.8 in a terminal window I get a response. Everything dependent on DNS is not working (firefox etc.) It thought my router might be the culprit because sometimes DNS fails using the router, however if I type Code: nslookup www.google.com a.b.c.d (router ip) I get replies. Anyway, I tried to change the DNS address in the network-manager configuration to 8.8.8.8 with DHCP enabled for the IP-address. After reconnecting/rebooting nslookup shows the same behaviour. I've installed squirrelmail 1.4.22 on ubuntu server 12.04 and it's working fine. Now I want the users to be able to change their password. I've installed the plugin change_passwd 4.0-1.2.8 and it seemed to be working, but when an user login & try to change their password, an error massage: "An error has occurred while attempting to change your password. Please contact your system administrator." Does someone know where the error can be and how to solve it?
