ubuntu 10.04; kvm bridged networking not working with public ip addresses
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 11, 2011
I have a dedicated hosted server box with ubuntu 10.04 64 bit installed. I would like to run kvm with ubuntu 8.04 installed for some php 5.2 compatible apps(they don't work right with php 5.3, the default in ubuntu 10.04).
I installed KVM as instructed at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Installation . I installed the vm using virt-manager. I never could figure out how use virt-install or any of those automated installers. I just installed it using the disc. I set up bridged networking as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking . However, the bridged connection doesn't work.
Here's my /etc/network/interfaces on the host, running ubuntu 10.04. (with specific public ip blanked)
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

Samba <> Unix password sync not working as expected

Libpam-smbpass is installed.

pam password change = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* .

I also tried 'pam password change = No' which should use the command of 'passwd program.'
After rebooting the Unix password was synced to the Samba password. But this is supposed to happen live, right?
Upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04. Webapps not working.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 19, 2012
I just upgraded my 12.04 box to 12.10. I have a few problems:
1) In 12.04 I added google's repo to install chrome. Web apps are not working with chrome for me right now
2) I installed chromium from the software center. Web apps are not working from chromium
3) I opened gmail from firefox. It almost looked like webapps were going to work with firefox as I got a popup from gmail to enable desktop functionality. However, I don't get a gmail icon in sidebar, and none of the webapp integration is present on my ubuntu!
4) I saw in a youtube video that gimp was integrated with unituy apps and that the dashboard would give me extra functionallity.. This isn't present in my install
How can I get the unity apps/ web apps to work? This was the feature I was looking forward to the most!

Ubuntu 9.10: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Not Working (Worked on Jaunty)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 20, 2009
I've just upgraded to 9.10 (fresh install from scratch). Everything seems fine, except the wireless. I don't know where to begin to fix this issue. From what others are reporting, it seems to be some sort of bug and I've tried many of the methods recommended as a fix, which I believe are just reiterations of fixes to problems that existed on previous versions of ubuntu with this wireless chipset. These failed fix attempts were:
sudo rmmod -f iwl3945
sudo modprobe iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1
"install the linux-backports-modules", this didn't fix it either.
Turning off the ethernet connection doesn't bring up the wireless either. This thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1322643 recommends opening a bug report. How and who should I report to?
If it helps, here's some info:

9.10 WEP encrypted WIFI autoconnecting not working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 24, 2010
Am a first time Linux user, Ubuntu 9.10 for the past 3 days. First of all, must say I'm very impressed with everything - despite the fact that it takes quite a bit of effort to get it to work on my laptop (P3, 1GHz, 512MB RAM, 30 GB HDD). Did previously run Win2000.
I have managed to get most things working, with a lot of reading in these forums. However, the final thing that I can't get to work is WIFI with WEP using the PCMCIA card (ACX111 chip, using ndiswrapper).
WIFI works fine on open connections, just not on WEP (I have tried out different networks, none with WEP encryption work: (40-bit) encrypted WEP, Ubuntu doesn't automatically establish a connection with my router when I turn on the laptop: it is attempting to connect (rotating 'thingy' in the NM applet at the top right of the screen), but it always times out and gives up, despite having set the proper key in the connection settings of networkmanager.
The *only* way I can establish WIFI/WEP connection is when (when

ssh without password for /home shared over NFS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 14, 2009
I am planning to build a small cluster for parallel computing. The first step would be to make sure all the machines can communicate with each other without requiring password. Now I am experiencing problem with the regular method of RSA shared key authentication method, since the /home is shared for all machines from a NFS filesystem. Thus, I do not understand how to distinguish the id_rsa file generated by ssh-keygen for all different machines.
Can anybody suggest what would be the most efficient way of achieving my goal? That method should work together with OpenMPI job submission.
SSH Without Password
- date: March 23, 2008
I'm trying to write a script that will automatically connect to a remote server and run a certain command over SSH. So far, after some googling, I have:
ssh [email protected]
With, obviously, the appropriate values for user, server and command. What I'd like to do is incorporate the password into this. I realize this is very insecure and I accept that. Is there a way to do this or, perhaps, create a file that stores the credentials to do so? Thank you in advance for your help.
