Custom Slax Build Wanted will pay $$$ for help!
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 30, 2010
I just started using Linux, specifically a distro called Slax (http://www.slax.org), and I love it. I am a Windows guy who works in IT and have been using computers since my old Commie64 way back. I just started messing with Linux and I think this is the perfect distribution for my needs, but really don't have the time at present to learn all about building modules and making stuff work in Linux. I have tried and as much as I love and know computers the curve on some of this stuff is a bit high. I will learn it ALL but I need something kind of quick for now. So I am here looking for a Linux Master Jedi to whip something together for me. I am looking for:
Someone to create a CD iso version of Slax using the Slax-Remix version v06/2.6.33.2 including the following modules all working, installed and listed in the Applications/Start Menu:
1. Trash on desktop 0.2
2. Skype 2.1 for Linux
3. LFTP+FTPPack
4. ISO Master
5. Google Earth 4.3
6. Krusader 1.90.0
7. testdisk & photorec
Help making adb recognize a generic android tablet
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 16, 2013
I'm trying to root a generic tablet (titan pc008) using ADB.
The thing is when i connect the tablet and run adb devices it doesn't get listed.
So i guess i need to install some sort of generic driver or something but i've very superficial knowledge about rooting and android tinkering in general.
I've already tried killing and restarting the adb server
The lsusb output for my device:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 2207:0000
Added this line to the file "/etc/udev/rules.d/99-android.rules":
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="2207", ATTR{idProduct}=="0000", MODE="0666", OWNER="user"
Adding PartedMagic and SystemRescueCD to SLAX on USB
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 18, 2009
I have created a bootable USB pen drive with SLAX using UNetbootin.
Now I want to also have PartedMagic and SystemRescueCD on the same pen drive as multi-boot, is this possible.
I have ISO's of both but I need detailed instructions as I couldn't figure out myself from the many Google search results.
The pen drive is 2Gb so space should not be a problem.

I want to install Slax onto Pen Drive using Linux!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 21, 2010
Hi.
I want to install Slax 6.2.0 USB onto my old 256MB Pen Drive.
I have formated the Pen Drive to FAT.
I copied /boot & /slax folders to the root of the Pen Drive.
Then I opened a terminal and ran:
Code:
./bootinst.sh
A screen came up prompting me to press any key to continue.
Then came this error:
Code:
./bootinst.sh: line 53: ./boot/syslinux/lilo: No such file or directory
What must I do? Is there a better method to get Slax onto a Pen Drive via Linux. I managed this before in Windows XP.

KDE distro like Slax
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 2, 2008
I ran Slax visa usb recently and loved the way Kde 3.5 was setup compared to many others. The menu was responsive and very clean and trimmed down. Kde just felt good.
I tried kubuntu but didn't like it because it felt sluggish and had too many things everywhere :/
What other distros have a similar feel with Kde similar to Slax, or just a trimmed down version?
Slax frugal install (sort of)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 2, 2008
Slax is a fast Live CD distribution. I copied the iso on a spare partition and run it from there after writing necessary entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst
I wanted to save my configurations (like one can do for Puppy) and found a cheatcode "changes=/folder" so I wrote that cheatcode and it has become a sort of Frugal install on the spare partition.
I posted about it on my blog and find that there are queries on this forum, therefore I am copying the blog post below:
I love Puppy Linux because of its speed but Slax is equally fast and it has KDE desktop.
Today I downloaded the latest updated version Slax 6.0.1 which has fixed many bugs in Slax 6.0 which was launched on 13th Feb 2008.
I keep a spare 1 GB partition on my hard disc where I copy the iso and modify /boot/grub/menu.lst file to boot directly from the iso without burning CD.
First I create a "install_cd" directory in /tmp and mount the iso on it by the following commands:
mkdir /t
Slax is nice

and very fast if you have enough ram...
I just tried this livecd distro upon a poster's advice (for a LiveCD that works without CD in the Drive). This is the web site http://slax.linux-live.org/
Once you boot with "slax copy2ram" at boot prompt, it copies everything to the RAM (as read&writable). booting and shutting down takes a while of course (filesystem uncompressed to RAM takes some time, 5-15 minutes). although it is small, you can add stuff you want using the "modules" (which are packages converted from slackware packaging format tgz). And, it was the second ever distro that made my slmodem work (after Ubuntu).
I'm amazed at what people can do with so little space (~160MB)!
A few problems I encountered during my test:
1. You have to read the "known bugs" section before downloading or using.
2. wvdial doesn't work (reported to devel)
3. can't add new user (will post to their forum).
4. Check out the modules. You can always install them
please wait...
