Making Slax writable?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 18, 2008
I've read that somehow the read-only filesystem in Slax (5.1.8) can actually act as a writable fs. Well...why can't I delete a program?
I.e. Popcorn can fit on a 128, but not a lot of room left, therefore, I'm trying to delete XFCE and only use Fluxbox, TWM, or IceWM. Problem is, it goes through the motions of doing it, but when I do an "ls /var/log/packages", it is still there. How is this done?
Dual booting Windows 98se and Slax
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 22, 2006
Hello, i'm a windows 98se user, and a real newbie to Linux. I was impressed with the 3DLG ( 3D looking glass) desktop that was used with a Slax distro that came on a DVD from a British magazine, and would like to more permanently install it on a partition of a hard drive where win98se is already installed as the primary OS. This Slax version is a live CD version, that's fully bootable from the CD.
How do i install this version of Slax with the 3DLG desktop to a partition of the hard drive (G)? Although i am comfortable installing windows from scratch, yet i know virtually nothing about Linux, so please keep instructions as simple as possible. Thanks, Andrew
How do I build a module for Slax...?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 19, 2010
Hi Fellow Slackers...
Long time no see... this is the begining of me trying to create a LiveDVD distro tailored for Engineers ( Civil/Mechanical/Naval/Aeronautical)
I am starting with Slax, ( a customized version tweaked by PhD Hrvoje Jasak, and Henry Weller, creators of OpenFOAM CFD Analysis suite: http://powerlab.fsb.hr/ped/kturbo/openfoam/release/ )
Well, I guess i want to build some sort of OpenFOAM_Slax on steroids... :
More CFD Packages : AVL, XFoil, Gerris, Code_Saturne
Visualization Tools : VisiT, OpenDX, ParaView, GnuPLOT
Math Prototyping apps : Octave, Scilab, Maxima
Finite elements solvers : Calculix, Frame 3d, Code_aster, Syrthes, GetDP, Ofeli, DealII
Finite elements/volumes Meshers : Gmsh, Grummp, NetGen, TetGen
Cad Applications : BRL-CAD, Blender, FreeCAD, Salome Platform, OpenCascade.
Hope all this can fit in a DVD...
So three questions, for now :
How do I build a lzm module for slax...?

I am having trouble with connecting my wireless card to the internet.. Reading all the information from this forum, and tons of other sites are getting me nowhere..
I can get the card to show up in iwconfig, and ifconfig, but seems it doesn't want to run properly.. I have used ifconfig ath0 up before and that doesn't work..
1.) ifconfig ath0 up
2.) iwconfig ath0 channel 6
3.) iwconfig ath0 essid myessid
4.) iwconfig ath0 key s:key and iwconfig ath0 enc s:key
5.) modprobe wlan, ath_hal, and ath_pci
Here is what I get from ifconfig:

[SOLVED] Slax USB question: Wireless do I manually set the IP address?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 1, 2011
I am trying to connect to the net wirelessly using Slax off my USB stick.
I did the best I could using the wireless configure tool but Firefox will not surf - no connection.
The configure tool shows that I am 'partly' connected in that it shows siginal strength in green but I noticed that there is no entry for IP address.
Am I suppose to know this and enter it?
In LMDE, I see the IP as 192.168.2.10 and other addresses. Do I need to enter this stuff?
Thanks for any help,
[SOLVED] Sony laptop USB 3.0 Host Controller device driver needed for Slax live CD
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 1, 2011
For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs.
I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it? Any help will be much appreciated.
What are the differences between Slackware and Slax?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 15, 2009
I've noticed in the forums that usually when someone suggests slackware to a newbie (like myself) they recommend playing with slax first. I am doing that at the moment and it's actually a pretty clean little experience so far, especially given that it's running off a USB stick. I was just wondering how close slackware 13 for instance would be to slax 6.2.1. I've switched to linux for the last few months to learn something new and from what I understand Slackware seems to be a "learn it or leave it" kind of distro compared to the ubuntu and mandriva I normally use. Is it truely the ordeal to get going that it's sometimes made out to be or more to the point is there a lot to getting a basic kde/firefox/openoffice/amarok/samba system up and running?
slax live cd antivirus
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 24, 2006
Hello, recently I had some jobs cleaning viruses from many windows boxes, I was using a cd tool known as Hiren's BootCD, but at the time to scan ntfs drives, antivirus tools like f-prot and mcafee from the Hiren's BootCD shows me error messages, I suppose that the reason is that the NTFS driver is not correctly loaded, Hiren's Boot uses NTFS4DOS, NTFS Professional from Winternals.com.
OK. searching for internet I found some projects like LinuxDefender, Chronomium and AVAST that have incorporated antivirus for windows, with full ntfs write support using captive driver. I don't know if those projects are supported yet, but I would like to create a slax live cd with antivirus for windows, and ntfs write support. I would like to know which antivirus to use, and how I can build a module to insert in a live cd. Plz excuse me, maybe my english is not so good.
