iPhone vs Android
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 9, 2011
I was talking to some friends yesterday and one them said they were going to be getting rid of their Android phone and replacing it with an iPhone because iPhones are much less susceptible to getting viruses. I pointed out that Android phones are based on Linux so they wouldn't get all the Windows viruses but that any phone can get a virus if you download a rogue app. I also recall reading somewhere that the iPhone has different OS to Apple computers which they don't have that added security.
I'm really interested in what others think about this and which they prefer: Android or iPhones.

Watching amazon instant videos

I am not able to search, so apologize if this has been discussed.
I am running 12.10 and have the latest updates. I tried to rent a video from amazon's instant video. I got an error about the flashplayer not being up to date.
Is it possible to watch amazon instant videos on ubuntu?
It would be kind of funny if we can't, since ubuntu made that deal with amazon.

Ubuntu On A Phone Or Firefox OS: Which Scares iPhone And Android Most?

Only time will tell. Anyway, the developments here are interesting to watch.
Canonical has one ace in the hole – the desktop feature. A powerful phone with Ubuntu installed can serve as a regular PC, once connected to a monitor and a keyboard.
At a time when most of your applications are hosted in the cloud, the ability to have your phone run a thin client on a large screen could convince many to try this Linux distribution. Add the fact that a fleet of Ubuntu phones can be managed through the same tools as Ubuntu servers, and you can see how it could appeal to the enterprise users.

Question 1: Can you actually sync in 12.04?
Question 2: Do I need to have my iphone unlocked/jailbroken to manage it in 12.04?

IPSec L2TP VPN server on Ubuntu for iPhone
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 10, 2009
I am trying to set up a IPSec L2TP server on Ubuntu so I can route all traffic from my iPhone through my home DSL connection. I used this as a general guide:
I am able to establish the VPN connection, but I only have access to addresses on my home network through the VPN. I can't access anything on the internet. Safari can browse web pages only within my LAN. The iPhone queries my DNS server successfully, so I am fairly confident this is not a DNS issue.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Why can't I access anything on the WAN? Suggestions?

Good day all.
I'm trying to figure out what is the Linux alternative to iTunes so that I could continue backing up my iphone. I figured out that I can sync music with Rhytmbox, but I'm concerned about apps and such.
