iPhone 4 (ios 6.1.2)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 12, 2013
I'm looking for a solution to replace iCloud on Win 7. I'm slowly adopting / learning Ubuntu's Linux in order to totally replace M$. Most of the apps found in Open Source
seem to be relatively straight forward to install and learn - Libre Office and TBird are great. Chromium browser vs Chrome - easy, Mint financial web app superb, Tax Act
web version imports last year's Win desktop filing. Over all I'm pretty impressed with Ubuntu. Replacing Photoshop with GIMP will entail a pretty steep learning curve - albeit do-able.
I'm pretty stumped inmy effort to find a straight forward, solution to iCloud - iTunes - iPhone. Most searches seemingly suggest jailbreaking the phone. Others don't seem to support 12.10. Is
this one of the tasks that, for the time being, I stick with the Win solutions?
Thanks in Advance
Question about encoding to make it work with iTunes/iPhone
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 1, 2013
I´m seeking help in regards playing screencasted files on iPhone after encoding. I´m not an expert in encoding matters and would be grateful if one of you could help me.
Based on "HOWTO: Proper Screencasting on Linux" (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1392026) I installed FFmpeg on my Ubuntu 12.04.
I started to record my screen based on the information in the aforementioned link:
ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1024x768 -i :0.0 -acodec pcm_s16le -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -threads 0 output.mkv
This works fine.
Afterwards I encoded the output.mkv file:
ffmpeg -i output.mkv -acodec libfaac -ab 128k -ac 2 -vcodec libx264 -preset slow -crf 22 -threads 0 our-final-product.mp4
But unfortunately this file can NOT be imported into iTunes. When doing so iTunes is saying:
"our-final-product.mp4" was not copied to the iPhone because it cannnot be played on this iPhone.
Would be great to get a hint how to do the encoding to m
Adding Ubuntu/Mint Repositories to Knoppix
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 7, 2011
Inspired by Knoppix Adriene, I am trying to install it on my netbook. However, I don't want the knoppix repositories since most of them are outdated.
How do I add ubuntu or linux mint's repositories to Knoppix? I guess I need to install the gpg-key also for each repository, correct?
Problems adding Knoppix to Grub in Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 25, 2007
I just did an HD install of Knoppix. Everything seemed to install correctly. Fstab in Ubuntu loads it fine, but I am having a problem adding an entry in grub. What I currently have in grub starts to boot Knoppix and then halts with a kernel panic. I also noticed with Ubuntu that there is a /initrd.img-2.6.20-16-generic I don't see this in the Knoppix /boot anywhere. Knoppix is installed on my SATA (sda or grub=hd2) drive, it is using the swap from my IDE (hda, grub=hd0,) drive. Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong?
Here is the Ubuntu and Knoppix entries from my /boot/grub/menu.lst
title Ubuntu 7.04
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=UUID=3d9d448d-e454-4fa6-90b3-da717e691648 ro quiet splash
title Knoppix 5.1.1
EDIT: I forgot to add that when I access the Knoppix partition /boot/grub, the menu.lst is empty as well as /etc the fstab being em

I am interested in exploring application development on the iPhone (using Ubuntu). I would want to distribute them through Apple Store if that's possible. Is it possible and in that case: What do I need to get started?
Thank you in advance.

MythTV on nvidia dual screen will not open videos on TV
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 4, 2008
I have nvidia dual screen spanning across my monitor and TV screen. MythTV opens on the TV and I'm still able to use the monitor. MythTv plays back recorded shows and watches TV on the TV. However when I open up videos, they open on the monitor. I have played around with mplayer command line flags but cannot get mythTV or mplayer by itself to open up the mplayer window on the TV.
I have searched and found one thread, but no solutions,
Cannot play mp4 videos after Ubuntu 11.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 15, 2011
I used to be able to play mp4 videos on Ubuntu 64-bits 11.04 (e.g. http://video.ted.com/talk/podcast/20...nick_2011X.mp4), but after installing 11.10, when I try to open a video such as this one, Ubuntu tells me I need the codec "Desmultiplexador Quicktime", which it can't find and so I can no longer play mp4 files like this one.
Can you help?
Blank screen during fullscreen videos and Steam games. What do I do?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 3, 2013
I'm unable to take screenshots/screengrabs. Everything I try ends up being a blank, black screen, though I can see my cursor.Full-screen video doesn't work in any web browser. I see a blank, black screen, but I can hear the audio.Full-screen games in Steam don't work. I see a blank color, but I can hear the audio.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 6850 (BARTS) and I'm running the latest Catalyst drivers on 12.04 (x64). The OS's GUI seems to be snappy and smooth, nor do I have any other problems. What can I do to fix this?
Lag in videos, animations, games, other programs
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 21, 2013
Somewhat recently, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my old desktop PC. For the most part it works fine, but any time I try to play any videos or flash animations of any sort, or when I run certain programs (games, Skype, etc.) the whole system bogs down with immense lag. I've been grappling with this problem for over a week now, going on two. I've tried different graphics drivers, I've tried both Unity 2d and 3d, I've tried toggling various options in both CompizConfig's Settings Manager as well as Nvidia's X Server Settings, and nothing seems to work. I'm really starting to lose my mind here.
My PC's stats are as follows:
Processor: AMD Athlon 3200+
RAM: 2.5 gig
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS
Someone please help me before I rip all of my hair out!
