Cannot play mp4 videos after Ubuntu 11.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 15, 2011
I used to be able to play mp4 videos on Ubuntu 64-bits 11.04 (e.g. http://video.ted.com/talk/podcast/20...nick_2011X.mp4), but after installing 11.10, when I try to open a video such as this one, Ubuntu tells me I need the codec "Desmultiplexador Quicktime", which it can't find and so I can no longer play mp4 files like this one.
Can you help?
Adding a disk quota to all samba users on LDAP
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 8, 2009
It appears that you are still able to apply quotas to LDAP users even through they do not appear as native linux users. Just apply the quota to the LDAP users username.
Current SituationI have all users setup using SAMBA and LDAP.
All users are in the LDAP tree.
Each user has an linux home drive.
None of the users has an native linux account because they are authenticated via LDAP
What I want
I want to give each of these users a quota of 128M. I cannot use the edquota -u command because there a no native users (They are in LDAP). I can use the edquota -g command on the "Domain Users" group but that means one user would be able to use up all the disk space.
What are my options here?

HowTo: Download YouTube videos (the easy way)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 10, 2007
Many people have been asking how to download youtube videos, and kept being pointed to useless software which will do it for them.
Here is the easy way:
Step 1: Find the video you want to download and wait for it to completely finish loading.
Step 2: Minimize your browser (do NOT close it, some browsers delete the temp directory upon closing), and navigate to the directory /tmp
Step 3: Drag the flash file onto your desktop. Voila!
This definitely works with firefox, and probably most other browsers aswell. Enjoy!

Flash videos vanish in Firefox 3.6.15 when not being viewed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 14, 2011
I've been having this problem when viewing online videos/tv, primarily channel4.com/4od and similar sites.
The videos load up and play with no problems, but if the view is shifted away from the video (e.g. scrolling down the page so the video is no longer visible or switching to another tab or window), after a little while (up to a few minutes) the audio from the video stops and, upon returning to the video window, the video has been replaced with a light grey rectangle. The problem seems to be different from others described here since the videos themselves are running with no problem until the view shifts away from them. Flash-based chat applications have the same problem.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.15 in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). All systems updated repeatedly, as far as I know the problem has existed forever. The issue doesn't seem to exist in Chromium, interestingly (but I prefer Firefox...)
Any suggestions on diagnostics to try to find the cause and solution?
adding mysql.so into php.ini
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2008
Another issue was making mysql run with php5
First install these packages:
sudo apt-get install php5-mysql mysql-client
then edit php.ini and add to it this line : ” extensions=mysql.so” if it isnt already there
sudo gedit /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
my question is
when i use gedit to edit php.ini
where do i add the line?
and is it extension instead of extensions?
adding/removing *.ttf fonts in suse9.3
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 23, 2006
I have Suse 9.3 installed (non-multiboot).
When I try to install (windoos)*.ttf fonts in using:
control center/system administration/font installer ..
*some* fonts do install, but after a few, *or* when I try to remove
some of the big bulk of fonts present the system slows down very
much, the mouse makes only interrupted movements, and the harddisk
light on the computer stays on: there is something going on...
I can wait a long time, nothings gets better...
I can only shutdown in using another window (ctrl-alt, f2 or so), the
machine shuts down very slowly...
I have tried the same procedure some times, but it gives no better
Is this normal, do I something wrong?
