Wireless connection on server with no GUI terminal only
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 12, 2011
I recently had to reinstall my server to 11.10 and I can not install a GUI / desktop on top of it (because the desktop files seem to corrupt the start up sequence & can not boot the server).
So, that being the case I have the server running in terminal mode only and I would like to enable my wireless ralink card to work with it, however I can't figure it out.
I did some research and I've already checked, the server can detect the card and the driver that is installed seems to be the correct one, but we can't figure out how to enable it, and we are not that proficient in using terminal, so can someone explain to us how to do this?
1. alternately is there a way to do this via webmin?
2. we did try using ndiswrapper, but also could not get that goin.
SSH tunnel + Squid issue (no internet connection)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 2, 2011
here is my strange issue, which i try to solve already several days.
Home server - running ubuntu, apache server, internal network IP 192.168.0.100, SSH enabled, router is forwarding ssh port (2022).
Remote PC - running windows, putty (SSH --> home server).
Putty settings and squid.conf: please see attached
Firefox setting: host SOCKS 5, 127.0.0.1:8080
Problem description: i am able to connect to home server using Putty, also WinSCP works well.
But the tunneling of internet connection does not work at all! Firefox just says "Connecting to (address here)" and after some time just times out.
Strangely enough, access log of squid is empty, looks like sshd somehow is not forwarding the information to squid.
Putty seem to establish tunnel connection:
2011-12-02 14:03:31 Opened channel for session
2011-12-02 14:03:31 Local port 8080 forwarding to localhost:8080
2011-12-02 14:03:31 Allocated pty (ospeed 38400bps, ispeed 38
Jetty: HTTP ERROR: 503/ Service Unavailable after change the server ip address WHEN NO INTERNET CONNECTION
location: linuxexchange.com - date: May 25, 2015
I did install Opennms in a VM Ubuntu on PROXMOX. Everything went well until I did change the interface IP address because the VM must work in a LAN without Internet access. Since then the opennms start correctly but the browser give me the error:
Jetty: HTTP ERROR: 503
Problem accessing /opennms/. Reason:
The problem seems to be related with the connection to Internet at the starting of opennms. When I start opens without Internet connection the server do to start correctly.

No Internet Connection Ubuntu Server 14.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 2, 2015
I am going to preface this by saying that I am a noob with networking in Ubuntu, especially without a GUI. So I am hoping that one of you more experienced users can help me fix my server.
Here's what happened:
1. I installed Ubuntu Server
2. created a root password
3. checked bcast and mask with ifconfig
4. changed "dhcp" to "static" in /etc/network/interface ; and set netmask, network, broadcast and gateway
5. I issued the command "/etc/init.d/netowrking restart" to restart networking
6. Updated with apt-get and it worked fine
7. I configured /etc/samba/smb.conf
8. I restarted the computer and I couldn't update or ping or anything.
Info on the server:
Ubuntu Server 14.04.1
Has samba installed and configured (I hope correctly)
Static IP set in /etc/network/interfaces
The apparent problem:
No internet connectivity.
I get error messages when I try to update or ping.
