automount problem ntfs3g, FUSE, setuid...?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 6, 2012
i'm trying to get my external hd mounted on boot. it's ntfs.
i actually already succeeded with the help of this article:
Fstab - Examples https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab#Examples
- i used the example fstab entry and it worked fine!
now while messing around with mobile broadband dongle and wvdial (which is now working nicely)
i changed some user privileges, and had this situation afterwards:
the external hd mounts, but when i start browsing it and especially after adding a shortcut to the sidepane, i suddenly get this error:
Failed to mount xxxx:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
Mount is denied because setuid and setgid root ntfs-3g is insecure with the
external FUSE library. Either remove the setuid/setgid bit from the binary
or rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated FUSE support and make it setuid root.
Please see more information at
...after which i can't access the drive anymore.
[SOLVED] Mint 13 wireless configuration problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 30, 2012
The machine in question is a Dell Latitude 2100 netbook. It came from the factory with Ubuntu 9.04 and has been running Ubuntu 10.04 for the past couple of years. Today I decided to install Mint 13 Mate which I have been playing with in VMWare and seems to have a nice simple interface.
The install on the netbook went fine. I installed the "restricted" driver for the Broadcomm wireless card just as I had done previously with Ubuntu. I configured the wireless connection under networking by supplying the SSID (which is not broadcast) and password from my wireless router. I set the connection to WPA2 personal as the router is WPA2. The issues I have noticed are:
1 - the wireless connection does not connect
2 - WPA2 personal reverts to WPA personal
I changed the router to WPA and still no connection.
I backed up the Mint install and am installing Ubuntu 12.04 to see if that will connect. In the interim, can anyone give me any suggestions regarding getting the Mint wireless con

Ubuntu 12.04 Dell Latitude E6320 Wireless Connectivity Problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 9, 2013
I recently did an update on my E6320 running Ubuntu 12.04 and after a reboot, the wireless no longer connects. It was connecting prior to the update via wireless, so something in the update must have screwed up the network connection.
Wireless attempts to connect to wifi
Wireless connection eventually times out and stops trying to connect
No password is requested because the saved connection has the password - it never re-requests it
Automatic (DHCP) addresses only
DNS Servers: 184.108.40.206, 220.127.116.11
Require IPv4 addressing for this connection to complete - checked
NOTE: I did these two updates because my wireless was not working when I first got the laptop and this fixed the issue at the time. I have tried turning these both back to Automatic without any luck.
Per other posts from Wild Man, I used the wireless_script that he provided to generate this info as well:

Dual Boot Problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 23, 2012
About one month ago i turned my Macbook2,1 to dual boot Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) and Trisquel 5.5 which is a 100% free software Linux distro based on Ubuntu 11.10.
I use refit 0.14 which allows to boot into Mac OS X or Trisquel.
Choosing Triquel forwards to a Grub2 Boot Loader. all works well... untill today when Trisquel all out of a suddon didnt boot anymore. it seemed to me that the grub2 boot loader did not even start. but i can't say that for sure, because i did hide the menu.
after hours of fiddeling with various tools (gdisk, gptsync) i managed to be able to boot Trisquel again. but something is still odd: both, the gptsync coming with refit and that in Trisquel which is the version 0.14-2(ubuntu) say that they cannot sync the mbr and the gpt:
sudo gptsync /dev/sda
Current GPT partition table:
# Start LBA End LBA Type

2 409640 171682495 Mac OS X HFS+
