Local Host Printer Problem on Xubuntu 13.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 18, 2013
I recently installed xubuntu 13.04 and I tried to install my printer (Brother-MFC 240C) which connects to the USB port. I went through the installation and it appears on "printers-localhosts". The device is said to be connected and when I attempt to print, my printer reads "receiving data files" but nothing happens. In the printer properties windows it says that the Printer state is"Idle - sending data to printer." Any idea of what might be wrong?
Zorin OS 5 freezing problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 28, 2011
Hello. I'm having trouble with Zorin OS 5 after installing it. I think it has to do with my graphics card. Figuring that Zorin is based on Ubuntu, it'll have the same problem I think.
Here's my Dell Dimension E310 specs:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller (rev04)
1GB RAM (I just replaced my RAM today from 256MB)
When I load Zorin OS 5, after a few minutes, it freezes my computer so I'm forced to hard reboot. However, when I booted it on low graphics mode, my computer doesn't freeze. I'm on low graphics mode right now.
Is there anyway I can do (besides replacing my graphics card...) to fix this error so I can run it without having to revert to low graphics mode? If there isn't, is there another Linux distro similar to Zorin OS 5 that is compatible with my graphics card?
Any opinions/help will be great! Thanks!
Problem with downloads on Fedora 17 64 bit
location: linux.com - date: August 20, 2012
I can download, but cannot run. It says it is saving in downloads, but when it completes, it is somewhere else. A window that pops up when download is complete, but I cannot do anything with it. If I close this window, file can never be again unless I start up browser window and click downloads. I have tried to download several things. I have decided to abandon Fedora for the moment and am attempting to get Zorin 6 64 bit as the os. It won't even let me save file to disc or usb flash drive. Help please.
Inspiron E1505 Wireless problem with 11.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 14, 2011
I have recently upgraded from 10.06 to 11.04 today and am having problems getting my wireless working. On 10.06 it was working just fine after I used the additional driver utility. Now on 11.04 I have used the additional driver utility and installed the Broadcom STA wireless driver that it says is required, but the internet connections on the top toolbar only recognizes my wired connection. Any advice?
Ubuntu 11.10 installation Screen Display Problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 11, 2011
Real newbie so please bare with me.
Installed Ubuntu v. 11.10 and all seems ok with exceptions.
Main query. Screen only displays the top left quarter of the screen.
Graphics section indicates that the Driver is unknown.
I do not see all of the icons as the three other quarters of the screen are
not available, resist entry. The space under the top left quartile has indefined colour stripes.
The right hand half of the screen is Black. 14" Screen and is only showing 640 x 480.
Laptop is an old (10)Dell Inspiron 1100.Graphics are via onboard chip, Intel from memory.
1 mb RAM and a 2.40 Celeron. BIOS is A32 and runs XP fine.
The installation is on a fresh 40 Gb HDD.
I am guessing that I need to find a driver for this but am not sure where to look and how to
apply it if/when it surfaces !
I am working on another computer at this time for ease of contact.
All suggestions welcome TIA

Problem with persistence with Ubuntu from USB.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 14, 2013
So this has been troubling me for a few days. I want to use Ubuntu from a live USB with persistence but I can ever get anything to actually persist when I boot up again. I have tried a combination of things. I have tried Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. I tried with Unetbootin and Universal USB Installer each time setting the persistence around 2GB. I wanted to use it for my Windows 8 laptop so I was using the 64bit version as Ubuntu suggested. I am able to boot from the USB and use Ubuntu fine. But when I reboot everything is gone. I tried setting up administrator account hoping everything would save to that. But I reboot it doesn't even recognize my account name or password. I then tried this on another laptop with Windows 7 and persistence still does not work. I do not know what I am doing wrong. Any idea of what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Dual boot problem with Win7 and Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 25, 2011
I'm only a few months into working with Linux, and am getting used to it slowly. I messed up trying to load Ubuntu 10.04 on a new Gateway (Acer) laptop that has Win7 on it. I need Windoze for a couple commercial applications. Neither will boot w/o a CD. I'm guessing I messed up the load. I would like directions/ideas. I think that since Windoze is such a hog, I should remove Linux and partitions, restore Win7 and try again. Do I need to do something to GRUB as well?
[SOLVED] TripleBoot Problem: Ubuntu, 7, and XP
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 6, 2013
I have had a dual boot setup on my computer for some time now. I achieved this by first installing Windows 7, and then installing Ubuntu. Grub is the bootloader and I have had no problems.
I decided I've been working with so many XP machines that I wanted to have an install to play around with (there was getting to be too much overhead on the VMs). I made a third primary partition and installed XP to that.
At this point, only XP would boot (as I expected). I threw in Boot-Repair-Disc and ran the automated fix. This restored the original grub boot menu I had before, and at this point Ubuntu would boot fine, but Windows 7 would not boot when selected. Using the Windows 7 install disc I ran the startup repair, and this got the Windows 7 selection working again. However, I cannot see the XP install anymore Of course it is still there and intact, but running update-grub from Ubuntu didn't find the install, and the Windows 7 startup repair didn't find it during its 'searching
