Another Country Says No to Microsoft Page 2

I think every government is at least toying with the idea of open source - as long as it remains a small project, MS isn't going to worry, but what will happen when more and more national and local governments make the switch? It will be interesting to see what MS does.
Ubuntu install...no root? Page 2

And now I know about the multiple wireless configurations. I am writing this as I sit in the Phoenix airport, with the laptop booted into ubuntu.
Ubuntu found the airport-wide hotspot when I started it, but tried to start with the configuration for my home lan instead. Using the gui networking tool, I told it to start using the hotspot ssid, and it failed because of WEP (I figured that problem out btw...the utility doesn't properly correct and rewrite the configuration file when you change the WEP key...I had to do it manually in the interfaces file).
When I zeroed out the WEP key, it promptly connected but didn't save the configuration.
So, connecting to foreign networks will require a bit of manual work.
They just called my flight...gotta go.
Internet will not connect, and says no devices found?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 14, 2009
For the last few days I've been trying to get ubuntu 8.10 to work with my internet.
I have a Motorola SB5120 Modem with Comcast. I went threw all the sites and did everything to try to make it work but nothing.
Everytime I type in terminal : ifconfig all, it says "error fetching interface information : device not found" but when I had windows it was there and worked great.
I have all the right info and it says connected to eth0 but a site will never come up to anything but problem loading page, and auto search(auto eth0 or ifupdown(eth0)) always trys then says network disconnected.
Everything else works good about the Ubuntu system except that.
Is there something i'm doing wrong? Does anyone think they can solve this problem? If so, I would gladly appreciate it
why no man page for pthreadcreate ?

It seems like no man pages for posix thread functions.
I go to google and get the description for those undocumented functions.
Is there any more convenient way to spot them?

Mozilla Browser Says done, Blank page.

I know I read about this problem somewhere but darned if I can find it. I go to the Web Page, "Wall Street News Alert" often as I have a stock portfolio there where I watch my stock day to day. It works fine with Windows but with Mozilla or Foxfire it works fine until I try to log in, Then it just brings up a blank page. The URL ends with .asp and I think this is the problem but how do I get around it? I have one computer with two hard disks, Red Hat 9 on one and Mandrake 10.1 on the other and have to fire up my other computer with Windows to see the page which is annoying to say the least.

I still use Windows. On my desktop I use it for gaming and my 3d apps along with Photoshop for textures. While GIMP is great I'll take Photoshop over it anyday and Linux just doesn't have anything close to the 3d apps I use.
As for my laptop, I dual boot right now but I'm seriously considering reinstalling Linux only, as soon as I decide on a distro. I also have a few concerns, issues I currently have with Linux..every distro tried on my laptop. Mplayer only works as long as the mouse is moving, missing a good binary news downloader like Newsbin, need to get wireless working, want a better file explorer, I really don't like the way Konqurer does things (lists, names, thumbnails for video..etc) and I need a good picture viewer simular to Thumbsplus.. not ACDsee, I don't like that app.
Still, my thinking is that I rarely use Linux with the dual boot so if I wipe Windows completely it will force me to learn it rather than booting back into Windows because Mplayer isn't working r

Slack Full install, Joomla says no mysql support
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 29, 2010
I made a full install of Slackware and have been using one of my boxes as an Apache web server. I recently tried to install Joomla, the PHP CMS software, and when I ran the pre-install requisite checker (The second step of the installation), the installer notified me that I do not have MySQL support. I find this especially strange as I've made webpages using PHP that made use of MySQL databases.
My pre-post research has lead me to several other people with the same problem. Half were using windows, and just had not uncommented the "extension mysql.so" line in the php.ini file. The other half solved their problem by installing their distro's php-mysql module. According to what I'd read, you can still use MySQL if you don't have that module installed, but Joomla does need it to be able to use the MySQL database.
I've searched long and hard for this plugin/add-on/module for Slackware, but to no avail. It's available in RPM format, and I know that it's po
