Any ideas on installing linux on PS3 slim, dispite loss of sony support?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 8, 2010
Hey, i got a 120 gb PS3 slim, and i want to run Linux (any that will work "well") on it... problem is that the support that Sony provided for the PS3 "fat", was removed from the slim. I was wondering if anyone had an idea for getting around that, in obviously a safe way, or knew of anything that worked.

Help needed with Zorin OS 4 (linux)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 22, 2011
I have recently installed Zorin OS 4 64 bit, which reads as Ubuntu 10.10 in the system monitor. I guess it is just 10.10 with a visual pack installed.
Anyway, How would I go about getting the movie player to actually read a Movie DVD? Is it a plugin thats needed? Or another program?
thanks ahead of time for any help that you can provide.
Older Intel Motherboard Compatability With Linux OS
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 18, 2013
In the marketplace to upgrade current computer system . Local vendors offer packge deals with various motherboard configurations . Some of the best deals have older Intel motherboards like 945 , 510 , 410 series . Being on a fixed income pricing is important for me . Just wondering if there might be any reasons these motherboards would not function well with Ubuntu or other Linus OS ? Not a gamer so basically just need computer for other tasks .
PS I did check the Intel web site but most of what they provide is over my head ..
Thanks in advance for any input
Introduction + what's up with Linux Ultimate OS website?
location: linux.com - date: February 18, 2012
I'm a Linux noob and I'm currently trying out several distros in a multi-boot system on two hard drives.
I know nothing at all about the command-prompt... any time I've had to use the terminal for anything, I've been lucky to get help at one of the forums, and people have given me commands to copy-and paste ;-)
I have a 120 Gb Crucial C-300 SSD that has my Win 7 Pro and Win 8 Developer's Preview, and on a 1 TB Caviar Black I have Mint 12 Gnome, Mint 12 KDE, Zorin 5.2 (which I like a lot!), and Ubuntu 11.1 (which I don't really care for.)
I also have a partition reserved for Ultimate OS. I had Ultimate 3.0 installed and took it off for some reason... even though I really liked it too. The last I saw their website, there was a tease about Ultimate OS 3.0.1. But for a couple of weeks now, their site has been down.
Does anyone have any info about what's going on there?
[SOLVED] Replacing XP with linux DeepIn English and Hebrew
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 18, 2014
I have downloaded & used Ubuntu/Kubuntu through the years as temporary "in case" on my second computer.
I now wish to replace XP with a linux English and Hebrew. Some UBUNTU's LTS are good for this.
I just tried DeepIn - I found a Times New Roman system Hebrew font but the font list did not show any Hebrew fonts. Also, the Deepin Libre writer did not allow interchangeable use.
This email is both an intro and also a search for Hebrew software fonts that will enable writing Libre office in both languages in the same document.
Cannot connect with Android to my Linux machine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 30, 2013
Since nobody responded to this post in networking and wireless section I'm posting it here, hope forum admins won't get mad for this and I sincerely apologise for reposting here. Hello fellow Ubuntu users, I am running a 32-bit Xubuntu 12.10 on my PC and running Android 4.0.4 on my rooted SE Xperia Neo V. I have installed an application called VX ConnectBot as an ssh client so I can connect to my PC. I have ssh client installed on my computer but every time I try to connect to it via my phone it takes forever to connect and then it gives me expired connection error.
Does anyone have any idea how to run diagnostics for this or how to fix it, much obliged.
Stay brutal, my regards.

Replacing a win2k router/firewall with Linux/BSD, which?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 10, 2004
********************************* SHORT VERSION:
I want to replace a Windows 2000 Server with an alternative, more secure and free BSD or Linux distribution. Im asking which 'distribution' is more suitable for the task of being:
* A router, to connect all the PCs to the ADSL line
* A firewall, to protect the network
* Sharing some files accross the network
and if i could use the same PC to provide:
* A mailing server (?) I dont know much about them, what i need is to be able to send internal mails between the office's PCs throght the network and fast. (a messager i guess its not suitable as there is the need to attach files, and sending a long instant message and then a file thrrugh it is quite ... )
* heavy file and printer sharing posibilities
If you want skip long story and go to the options below
********************************* LONG STORY:
The server is used as a gateway to a ADSL connection for 50+ PCs, ranging from Pentium 133mhz t
Replacing OSX with Linux? No I do not wish to Triple boot OSX, Linux and Windows.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 4, 2011
I couldn't think of a better place to put this...
Anyway, since my Mac is a MacMini, it has an incridibly limiting Hard Drive space of 160GB. It does not go as far as it used to. I want to install Linux on this machine, but... I need to keep Windows for certain games (that does manage to play well on this machine), but I have no interest (at the moment) of keeping OSX installed.
I can't simply resize the Windows partition, as because I need the space for Games.
Is it possible to just remove OSX and install Linux instead?
Any help is appreciated.
And sorry if a question like this was asked before, I couldn't think of a better search line aside from "replacing OSX with Linux", and that didn't seem to turn up any good results.
