[SOLVED] Replacing XP with linux DeepIn English and Hebrew
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 18, 2014
I have downloaded & used Ubuntu/Kubuntu through the years as temporary "in case" on my second computer.
I now wish to replace XP with a linux English and Hebrew. Some UBUNTU's LTS are good for this.
I just tried DeepIn - I found a Times New Roman system Hebrew font but the font list did not show any Hebrew fonts. Also, the Deepin Libre writer did not allow interchangeable use.
This email is both an intro and also a search for Hebrew software fonts that will enable writing Libre office in both languages in the same document.
replacing WinXP with Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 23, 2006
I want to completely get rid of WinXP. I am considering Linux as a replacement OS. Could anyone recommend versions of Linux that are user friendly and perhaps offer a GUI and MS Office compatible software?
How difficult will it be to reformat my HD and install the version of Linux?
Thanks in advance.
no modem in yellow dog linux any ideas?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 17, 2002
I've installed yellow dog linux on my mac, but linux doesn't see my modem. The modem works when I boot into OS9 but not from YDL.
YDL is a power pc distribution and is design to run on newer macs. Any mac savvy linux users who could shed any light on this please?

Introduction + what's up with Linux Ultimate OS website?
location: linux.com - date: February 18, 2012
I'm a Linux noob and I'm currently trying out several distros in a multi-boot system on two hard drives.
I know nothing at all about the command-prompt... any time I've had to use the terminal for anything, I've been lucky to get help at one of the forums, and people have given me commands to copy-and paste ;-)
I have a 120 Gb Crucial C-300 SSD that has my Win 7 Pro and Win 8 Developer's Preview, and on a 1 TB Caviar Black I have Mint 12 Gnome, Mint 12 KDE, Zorin 5.2 (which I like a lot!), and Ubuntu 11.1 (which I don't really care for.)
I also have a partition reserved for Ultimate OS. I had Ultimate 3.0 installed and took it off for some reason... even though I really liked it too. The last I saw their website, there was a tease about Ultimate OS 3.0.1. But for a couple of weeks now, their site has been down.
Does anyone have any info about what's going on there?
any media streaming box that works with Linux?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 15, 2007
My old Mythtv box died. It had a good run. It was 850mhz Duron with 512megs of PC133 ram. The mainboard is completely fried from the weather. It seems like it is almost impossible to find a motherboard that takes PC133 now. My budget is kind of tight these days. I don't feel like putting down $300 for new ram, cpu, and motherboard. I was wondering is there any media streaming box that will work Linux. I know there are tons out there that will work with Windows box, but I am not seeing anything for Linux. If it can play quicktime video (since most podcasts are apple video format), it would be a plus.
howto "backup" Android (v2.2) phone with linux (Ubuntu Lucid)?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 14, 2011
Since "backup" implies a copy of program and data files such that one might recover from a catastrophic system failure, exactly how does one accomplish a "backup" of an Android-based mobile phone?
Clearly one can connect the phone via USB and mount the internal and external storage. Those contents can be copied from phone to workstation disk. I'm not aware that once can later over-write a phone's contents with whatever was copied and have a working phone in matching condition with the situation when you made the copies.

I am using Windows Server 2003 and ISA server 2004 on my server machine.
I want to use Linux on my server machine to provide and control the internet service to my clients.
From where should I start. I dont know much about linux but I have intalled red hat on my pc and tried to get familiar with its commands and I know many basic commands now. But I dont know to configure linux as a server to replace the windows server 2003 and isa server 2004.
I have come to know that it works better than Winserver.
We have a electric power shortage problem in Pakistan now a days and we have to face un scheduled electric load shedding. So we could not propely shutdown the windows server due to which its services get corrupted and it gives error on next boot after the load shedding.
I have come to know that linux is safe in this regard that we dont have t
