Apache commons.net.ftpclient on Linux
location: linuxexchange.com - date: July 14, 2010
I am using org.apache.commons.net.FTPClient to upload/download/list files using FTP. The server daemon is vsftpd running on CentOS 5.4, and the apache package is 2.0
It seems that all the mentioned operations perform well on the server (judging by the log vsftpd.log) where files are uploaded, the download command is received, so does the list command. The problem is that the client deadlocks, so it never acknowledges the operation end. Same code works fine when connecting to an FTP server that is running on WindowsXP. Not sure what to do
Changing the OS key with the FTPClientConfig from UNIX to NT or WINDOWS does not seem to change that behavior. I've also tried with PASIV/ACTIVE mode ftp client, without any success though
I am hoping someone could help me with this. Thanks
Encoding problem when compressing files with Apache Commons Compression on Linux
location: linuxexchange.com - date: July 19, 2011
I am compressing files using the Apache Commons API Compression. Windows 7 works fine, but in Linux (ubuntu 10.10 - UTF8), characters in file names and folder names, such as "º", for example, are replaced by "?".
Is there any parameter I should pass to the API when compact, or when uncompressing tar?
I'am using tar.gz format, following the API examples.
The files I'm trying compress, are created in windows... is there any trouble?
public class TarGzTest
public static void createTarGzOfDirectory(String directoryPath, String tarGzPath) throws IOException
System.out.println("Criando tar.gz da pasta " + directoryPath + " em " + tarGzPath);
FileOutputStream fOut = null;
BufferedOutputStream bOut = null;
GzipCompressorOutputStream gzOut = null;
TarArchiveOutputStream tOut = null;
fOut = new FileOutputStream(new File(tarGzPath));
bOut = new BufferedOutputStream(fOut);

Apache package installation into Linux Mint
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 30, 2009
I am a newbie in Linux. I am coming from Windows XP.
I have just downloaded and installed the Linux mint 8 Helena. I am trying to install the XAMPP package so I get an Apache server setup with all needed to run a web server but the installation scrip that comes with it does not run. I have also tried to do it manually but is a nightmare for me as I am used to run just msi files.
Is there any known incompatibility between this version of Linux and the latest Xampp or am I doing anything wrong?
Install Apache HTTPD on RedHat Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 6, 2013
I am trying to install the apache http server on a redhat 64 bit install that's running on VMWARE.
Apache doesn't provide an rpm.but they say I can convert the source tarball to an rpm using this command
rpmbuild -ts httpd-2.4.x.tar.bz2
From the apache website I downloaded httpd-2.4.3.tar.bz2
when I try the command above I get rpmbuild command not found.
So I try to install rpmbuild package. In the Applications->Add/Remove Software i search on rpmbuild and don't find anything.
I typed in yum install rpmbuild
and initially got
bash-3.2# yum install rpmbuild
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
RHN support will be disabled.
Setting up Install Process
No package rpmbuild available.
Nothing to do
Then I went online and found a sample yum.conf file and replaced the one that I had in /etc and tried the same command and got these messages
