Apache2 modrewrite doesn't appear to work.

SOLVED [solution on third post, thanks to a nudge by Sanemanmad]
I wasn't sure which category to put this in, so I put it in the category for "installation"s =P.
I can't get mod_rewrite to work for the life of me. I have apache2 installed and php5. my webpages show up fine. Actually I put this stuff in point form.
-apache2, php5, and mysql5 are installed.
-phpinfo shows mod_rewrite, proxy, and proxy_html are enabled module of apache2.
-my httpd.conf has a line for 404 error documents and that works, so I know the file is being read and used.
-I have my modrewrite script in httpd.conf and, although I'm not copying and pasting this, the code was generally:
RewriteEngine onRewriteRule ^about.php$ blog.php
(I did this strictly for testing purposes)
-I also have the rewrite error handling level on and set to 9. It at least made a file for the logs, but hasn't put anything in the files yet.
-I set allowOverride for that site-enabled folder

your help would be appreciated.
Nas server, openiscsi,and lvm questionwhy doesnt this work?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 14, 2012
I have a 16 bay-nas server running debian wheezy with 4 drives in it. With out going into all the hardware trivia what i am trying to do is use it as a network media share device. I have a 4Tb volume setup with ntfs-3g as a iscsi target gpt partion table so my win comps can see it. That works. unfortunantly i cant seem to mount that on the server to use it for my mediatomb server. i can get it to mount by running partprobe it generates a partition in /dev/mapper that i can mount and use but if I add files from a connected machine to the target volume the changes are not reflected on the mapped vol-02-p1.
here is some of the setup (Mounted)
PV /dev/sdc1 VG Vol-02 lvm2 [1.82 TiB / 0 free]
PV /dev/sdd1 VG Vol-02 lvm2 [1.82 TiB / 0 free]

Edit: Ah damn. Forget it. Looks like its because I installed the 32bit drivers on a 64bit distro. I really hop SIS has 64bit drivers. I have a feeling I'm about to be screwed on this though.
Edit 2: Yup. No 64bit driver.
Edit 3: So should I install 32bit Ubuntu? What do I lose by using it versus the 64bit one? Or can anyone reccomend a USB or EX card for WIFI that works natively with Linux. A cheap one?
Hi, I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li 1818. After getting frustrated as hell with Vista that it came with and being unable to easily install XP I decided to give Linux another try and see if it had improved. (You may notice I registered almost exactly two years ago. Thats when I last tried and gave up on Linux within a day. Now I'm a little older, wiser and with more patience. )
So I've installed Ubuntu 8.04, and so far I love it. No lag or sluggish system resources that make my Core 2 Duo behave like a Pentium 2. A little pissed that it came without any codecs, as I dont have in

Apache2 does not appear to be running
- date: March 12, 2007
when I start apache, I don't get any errors or failures.
:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 start
* Starting apache 2.0 web server... [ ok ]
Everything seems ok, however apache has not started. When I check the error log I see:
:/home# cat /var/log/apache2/error.log
PHP Warning: cl_loaddbdir: Unable to open file or directory\n in Unknown on line 0
PHP Fatal error: Unable to start clamav module in Unknown on line 0
LibClamAV Error: cl_loaddbdir(): Can't open directory /var/lib/clamav
I cleared the error.log and restarted apache. Now the error.log says:
:/var/log/apache2# cat error.log
PHP Warning: Database initialization error: Malformed database\n in Unknown on line 0
PHP Fatal error: Unable to start clamav module in Unknown on line 0
LibClamAV Error: cl_free: root == NULL
Any tips or solutions?
ubuntu apache2 service restart only work with “sudo apache2ctl restart” not worked with“sudo service apache2 restart”
location: linuxexchange.com - date: July 3, 2015
I find a weird problem on my ubuntu14.04, I install the apache2 mysql and php, then when I try to restart the apache with command sudo service apache2 restart or sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart, it just show "failed". The same results with sudo service apache2 stop or sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 stop.
when I check the apache log in /var/log/apache2/error.log, there is no related log, seems the command not worked.
Afterall, I find sudo apache2ctl restart|stop|start can work well. And when the apache server is stop, sudo service apache2 start can start but sudo service apache2 stop cannot stop, I just wonder why?
PHP mail function, message is sent but doesnt appear in mail box, verification issue
- date: March 12, 2014
I am trying to implement email verification on my website by sending links to the registered users, but I am not quite sure how to use php's "mail()" function,
I simply created a file with following content taken from http://php.net/manual/en/function.mail.php :
// The message
$message = "Line 1\r\nLine 2\r\nLine 3";
// In case any of our lines are larger than 70 characters, we should use wordwrap()
$message = wordwrap($message, 70, "\r\n");
', 'My Subject', $message);
When I open this file on my server (on DigitalOcean) I am not getting any errors,
and the following appears in log file:
"GET /new HTTP/1.1" 200 344 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/32.0.1700.107 Chrome/32.0.1700.107 Safari/537.36"
As I read from previously asked questions on Win SMTP must be configured and so on
How do I configure this mail function on Ubuntu 12.04 ?
Should I change anything in php.ini

Why doesnt OpenOffice work after install?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 10, 2012
I installed OpenOffice according to the instructions of this video.
On the video it says to go to System > Update Menu > Start from Scratch. Mine does not have a Update menu option. I'm not sure if this option matters or not for this version of Slackware(13.37).
Anyway, when I double click the icon to run the program a box pops up saying:
This will start the program:
So I click continue and then another box comes up saying:
Sorry- Plasma Workspace
Unable to make the service OpenOffice.org 3.3 Writer executable, aborting execution
Any ideas. Id really like to save files as .doc and I'm unable to do so with Kword.
