I tried Google but the first hit doesn't look very legit.

tangerine and itunes share
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 30, 2012
I'm trying to setup an Ubuntu (11.10) share with tangerine. Itunes on the Winows 7 PC shows the shared directory but not the files inside. I installed Banshee on the widows machine, but that does not even display the shared ubuntu directory.
I previously tried forked-daapd, which was able to show and play files in Itunes, but would stop playing after about 5 minutes. It appears that I broke something when removing that package.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Problem opening iTunes download with Wine with Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 16, 2011
I've run into some problems while trying to install iTunes onto my system (Ubuntu 10.10) using Wine. I've installed Wine and configured everything properly, and then I download iTunes. I've tried downloading several versions, including 7.2 (older version) and the newest version (iTunes 10). However, when I try to open this downloaded file, I get the message:
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe or
/home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe.ZIP, period.

[SOLVED] How do I download the KDE desktop (Kubuntu) when I already have Ubuntu v.1210?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 12, 2013
I would have dowloaded Kubuntu directly via wubi, but it wouldn't work. I read somewhere that you can download the KDE environment on Ubuntu anyway, so I went ahead and downloaded Ubuntu again.
Where do I go to download the environment? I checked the Ubuntu Software Center and I tried using a search engine, yet I come across no relevant results.
Could somebody please give me a push in the right direction?
Wubi Ubuntu install from download problem Install files not found
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 18, 2011
Hello - I am trying to install Ubuntu on my Toshiba Satellite 5205-S703 laptop with WinXP Home. The CD/DVD drive no longer works so I have to use the download installer. In fact, I hope to install Ubuntu to help me determine whether the CD/DVD problems are hardware or software related. The computer has no provision to boot from USB either. The download went fine, but as soon as installation started this error message popped up: "An error occured. Could not retrieve the required files. For more information, please see the log file: c:\docume~1\toshiba\locals~1\temp\wubi-10.04.1-rev190.log". I looked at the log and its contents are way above my pay grade. I can post it if that would help. Thanks!
Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server
- date: August 14, 2011
It seems this is a common problem. I used Samba to configure and connect the computer running Ubuntu 11.04 with my Windows Visa workgroup. This is a wired, not wireless, connection.
In Ubuntu, under Network, I can see the name of the other computer (NOVA_MORAI), but when I click, I get the error:
Unable to mount location - Failed to retrieve share list from server
I tried the nmblookup command, here is the output:
:~$ nmblookup NOVA_MORAI
querying NOVA_MORAI on 192.168.1.255
:~$ nmblookup -A 192.168.1.2
Looking up status of 192.168.1.2
NOVA_MORAI <00> - B <ACTIVE>
PLANET OF FATE <00> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
NOVA_MORAI <20> - B <ACTIVE>
PLANET OF FATE <1e> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
MAC Address = 00-1B-B9-83-AC-67
There it it. But when I try the findsmb command, it does not show up.

Samba share (1gb/s) vs local ntfs3g transfer speed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 17, 2009
hi all, hope this is the best forum to put this question in,
as a noob to such things, i was hoping someone could give me some advice on what should be a simple question for people in the know. I have a computer which has to be dual boot (winxp/ubuntu), and at first used a local ntfs drive for shared files both systems can read, using ntfs-3g driver in ubuntu. however i recently discorered how unbelievably slow the writing speeds are with this driver, saving a 100mb file from a 3d app takes close to 10 minutes.
my question is whether i would get faster write speeds if my shared drive sat on another machine, and my winxp/ubuntu machine mounted the drive through samba. i don't have much knowledge about how cifs/samba works (none at all really) but guess that letting a remote windows machine write to ntfs through samba might be faster. (or alternately the remote machine could be linux/etx3 and my winxp option on my dual boot machine can write to that through smb or something)
