Aptget update runs without errors but doesn't really update package list

Hi everyone.
Since i installed 14.10 64 bits, three weeks ago, I never got any package to update. When I do apt-get update, I won't get any error, but updating of the package list is very fast and downloaded sizes seems very small, so i think it's not updating anything.
When doing apt-get upgrade, it never find anything.
Here is the output of apt-get update, in French but I guess you will figure it out.
Code:
[email protected]:~$ sudo apt-get update

Tomcat starts without errors but not listening on 8080
location: linuxexchange.com - date: August 12, 2012
I am running tomcat 6 on Centos 6.4 and have started it sucessfully. There were no errors on start. catalina.log reads:
2012-08-11 14:23:42,941 | INFO | main | o.a.c.http11.Http11NioProtocol | Starting Coyote HTTP/1.1 on http-xx.xx.xx.xx-8080
2012-08-11 14:23:42,960 | INFO | main | o.a.catalina.startup.Catalina | Server startup in 121483 ms
And ps -x shows it as running.
Unfortunately it is not responding on port 8080 however and netstat -atnp | grep LISTEN does not list it.
Any ideas of what could cause this?

Cannot update package list for apt

Hello all,
I'm new to GNU/Linux and recently installed Edubuntu 10.10 beta on a workplace computer. I'm currently a technology intern at a public school and want to install Edubuntu on some older computers here. I am working behind a network proxy provided by the department of education.
I tried to install flashplugin-nonfree and noticed I didn't have a full package list. After running sudo apt-get update I get the error "unable to connect to us.archive.ubuntu.com:http:"
I'm thinking this might have to do with the network proxy, but for some reason I'm able to browse http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ just fine in Firefox.
How do I update the package list?
Thank you
Edit: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on another machine at work and it has the same issue, i.e. I can't update the package list.
Edit 2: I am using a .pac file for the proxy.

I'm using natty 64 bit on a lenovo laptop. I tried to install google chrome by downloading the deb and opening it in the Software Center. It said package files didn't download. I looked online and decided to try to fix my sources.list file. I used a generator to make a new file with just the basic repositories. When I tried to update, this came out:

I receive these errors when I try to run apt-get update. Should there be any concern? I don't believe I have gotten many updates since this began several days ago.

Failed to Fetch errors when doing aptget update

I know this has been asked many times, but I've done a whole bunch of searches and nothing helps.
When I run "sudo apt-get update" a lot of the errors appear.
Here's a snippet:
Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com oneiric-updates/universe Translation-en
Cannot initiate the connection to 8080:80 (0.0.31.144). - connect (22: Invalid argument)
W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...es/Release.gpg Cannot initiate the connection to 8080:80 (0.0.31.144). - connect (22: Invalid argument)
I've attached the whole output from the command.
Yes, I'm behind a proxy server, but I know I can get out:
[email protected]:/etc/apt$ ping www.cnn.com
PING cnn-56m.gslb.vgtf.net (157.166.248.11) 56(84) bytes of data.
I've tried a bunch of Ubuntu distros lately (11 and 12 server and desktop) and FWIW, this "Failed to fetch" error happens on both v12 (desktop and server) and on 11 server.
My 11 desktop doesn't have this problem at all. They're all using the same proxy ip
sudo aptget update errors

Hi,
I am completely new to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and am struggling to find a solution to this problem:
When I type 'sudo apt-get update' into the command terminal I am getting the following 2 error messages:
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/(lsb_release/dists/-sc)/partner/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.150 80]
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/(lsb_release/dists/-sc)/partner/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.150 80]
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Could someone help me with this?
I have tried various suggestions including trying different download servers.
Many thanks
Ubuntu aptget update returns 404 errors

Hi!
I recently tried to update apt-get, but it just returned a lot of 404 Not Found errors. I've checked the links in a web browser and they work. I also tried wget the files from the server with the same 404 Not Found result. It doesn't matter if I change addresses to another server. I still get the same error. It seams like I can wget the index.html file of the root of a webpage, but not get any other file or get anything from a subfolder. There are no problems connecting to the server with either http, ftp, vpn or ssh. I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04.1 so there shouldn't be any problem there. I've tried searching the Internet for a similar problem, but all solutions I found didn't work.
Here is the output from apt-get update:
Code:
