[SOLVED] Ubuntu ATI drivers for ATI Radeon HD6370
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 2, 2011
ALL,
Has anyone had any luck installing drivers for an ATI Radeon HD6370 video card.
This is on a HP Laptop dv7-4285dx. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I have already tried Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 without any luck.
I installed the "restricted drivers" but after doing that it seems to disable the OS of just freeze at boot time with 10.04.

After quite some time I have used windows i have returned to Linux, I used to love Linux but than I had to use windows for gaming purposes.
Now, I have decided to try Linux again in dual boot with windows 7 ultimate.
Installation was pretty smooth, I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit amd).
My PC:
Amd phenom 2 X2 550 3.0 GHZ
Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
Samsung 500GB hard disk
AMD ATI Raedon hd 4870
I have A few problems.
1:
I have a dual screen setup, one 17'' screen in the left and a main 22'' screen in the middle. It works perfectly in windows but for some bizarre reason I can't manage to configure my 22'' inch screen as a main screen in ubuntu. Furthermore, when I set them together the smaller screen (which it sets as main) as some weird location issues. (may have something to do with 2 and 3).

My 17'' inch screen (mentioned above), is a native 1280X1024. But ubuntu doesn't give me that as an option. I have 1360X768 (which is over the

ati drivers will not enable

ok i just did a minor upgrade on a really old pc. stuck an ati 9600 pro into it. booted the computer up, went into low graphics mode and once i was logged in, ubuntu picked up the card, downloaded the drivers, then told me to restart. i did the restart but the driver will not become enabled. i went into the restricted drivers menu, the driver is listed there with a check mark, however there is a red light saying "not enabled". i tried another restart again hoping that would get the driver enabled. when booting up xorg tries to start up a few times but then gives up. im now just looking at a command prompt. i tried to log in, it looks like it does the log in, but then brings me right back to the login prompt.

I currently run Centos on my Dell 1501 AMD Duel Core 1900 _86x64 Inspiron Laptop. I am limited to Centos as this appears to be the only distro that can manage my ATI graphics card. Fedora, Mandriva, openSuzie, Freespire, Linuxmint...wont work.
I get the dreaded gray streaked screen...and the system freezes...any ideas in what I can do. I can install fedora from a live cd, but I cant actually get to log in before I lose the screen.

Kernel module build environment not found (trying to install ATI drivers)

I'm following this tutorial in an attempt to install the drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 on Fedora 11.
I am using the 2.6.29.4 kernal, and so I skipped step 1. I installed this driver from AMD's site: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...5&lang=English
Then I check the /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log file like the tutorial said, and found that there were a few errors. Here is the exact contents of the file, from beginning to end:
Unloading radeon module...
Unloading drm module...
[Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.
[Message] Kernel Module : Precompiled kernel module version mismatched.
[Error] Kernel Module : Kernel module build environment not found - please consult readme.
Does anyone know what to do from here?
P.S. I tried this before and continued on, ignoring the error, which resulted in Fedora not even being able to start up (in other words, I didn't even see the blue bars go across the bottom of the scre
No signal on HDMI after updating AMD/ATI drivers

Hi!
This is my first post as I'm new to this beautiful world of Linux.
I have strange problem and I was looking for the solution on forums for 3 days but couldn't find anything that would help.
I using Asrock e350m1 and Ubuntu 11.04 connected with TV (GRUNDIG LCD 1366x768 ) via HDMI.
When I've installed Ubuntu (everything was normal during installation) my screen resolution was 1360x768 (notice that TV is 1366x768 ) - just to notice because i didn't saw anything bad in this.
Than, I installed proprietary drivers (AMD/ATI proprietary FGLRX graphic driver).
After installation, it asked to restart system and I, of course, did it.
Until this point everything was normal...
Than, computer started to boot as it does normally, but after splash screen my TV lost signal.
Interesting point is that when I connect regular monitor to DVI (VGA) port, I can boot normally and if I also leave TV connected with HDMI I get duplicated desktop on my TV with resolution as same as on monitor (1280x10

Major issues getting ati drivers to work and launch steam linux client
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 9, 2013
First time user for all of 24 hours. Definitely had some issues I wasn't expecting!
The goal: Get the steam linux client running so I can try out a few of my games on linux there.
The result: Had to reinstall linux three times, still no luck getting there.
I have tried four different version of the ATI drivers for my radeon 7970, none of which have worked. All don't let steam launch, but they are different flavors of not working:
1. Default- system works normally except steam won't launch (nor any games from humble bundle it seems.)There is a little blip of... something (a very tiny blank box) when I try to launch the steam client but it immediatly goes away. Does not show up in the system monitor aftewards.
2 and 3. Alternate installs from the "system applications" remove the sidebars and other items from the desktop when I restart. That means I can't recall explore things (not knowing the shortcuts yet). Steam won't launch.
4. Direct install from the AMD website
please wait...
