LXer: Google Chrome Automatically Installs Google Repository in Ubuntu

Published at LXer:
This is something I have never heard of. I was trying to install Google Chrome in Ubuntu and in the download page a small note came into my notice. It goes something like this "Installing Google Chrome will add the Google repository so your system will automatically keep Google Chrome up to date".

ackage Kit Error-- "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository"
what does this mean and how do I fix it?
Is there a Mageia repository that includes a modern Firefox? Page 3
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 11, 2013
I don't understand why this thread has turned into an attack on a users choice. The OP asked if there was a way to obtain the lastest firefox via the repos in Mageia. The answer is 'no'. The OP decides to change to another distro that gives him that functionality and is berated. This is why there are so many flavours of GNU/Linux out there. Some provide functionality that others don't. Some provide a convenience that others don't. Some provide the latest stable releases of software that others don't, and the list goes on. For the OP, convenience, ease of use and current versions of software available appear to be a major factor in his choice of what to run. He has every right to jump to any distro that fulfils his need. I don't see why he should be attacked for that.

Could not download all repository indexes
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2013
Hi I am a newbie using Linux I have used Windows for years, and am tired of the problems with it. I am using Linux Mint 14.1 with cinnamon, on a HP Pavilion dv6 64 bits w/AMD turlon x2 chip/4megs ram, it was working great.
I lost the connection to my Internet (Cable 15mbs) after it came back up. I saw that the an system need an update. I tried to update and got the following, rebooted and tried again same thing happened. The reboot took over 4 minutes. The same thing happens each time I boot now and still get the same error when I try to update.
Thanks for any help
Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

I am new to Linux and am loving it! I especially love Ubuntu because of it's stability and usability! One thing I am having difficulty is finding a repository where I can install 3d games like america's army and such. I am a gamer and need some cool games
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 17, 2007
There is a lot of nice free OSS games now. What about having a game dedicated repository with up to date packages? Is it something we can see in the future?
Ubuntu Gaming Repository
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 22, 2006
The idea of creating a repository dedicated to having up to date versions of native linux games for Ubuntu has definitely come up before, but what do people think of it? Is it a stupid idea or is it just a resource problem?
If the idea does have some reason behind it but there is limited resources to back it up it could just be a small repository with few chosen games and as requests start coming in few new games would be chosen to be added, that way it would grow both according to resources and gamers requests.
I find it unlikely this could be an official project but what about the people behind Ubuntu Gamers Arena?
What do you people think?
Ubuntu Gaming Repository??
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 1, 2006
I know that the main, universe, multiverse repositories are updated every release, but many games are updated at odd intervals ( ie whenever the programmers get to it) so if we had a backports like game repo. we could have the lastest versions.
i have seen one listed but i'm not sure how upto date it is or if it is for hoary or breezy and it 386 only http://apt.linex.org/dists/cl/juegalinex/binary-i386/
