Epson Perfection V30 Scanner Installation Guide
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 6, 2010
UPDATED JUNE 2012
Having (just) purchased an Epson Perfection V30 scanner and successfully installed and scanned and printed an image / document (in Xubuntu Intrepid & Natty & Precise), I wanted to share my experience via this mini "how-to":
1. Plug the scanner into an electrical outlet via power cord.
2. Plug the scanner into a computer via usb cable.
3. Press the power button on the scanner (turning it ON).
4. Download the libtdl3 .deb from here (NB: You may not need libtdl3 for release > 8.10).
5. Download the iscan "data package" .deb [ iscan-data_x.x.x-x_all.deb ] for release < 12.04, here or for release 12.04, here.
6. Download the iscan "core package" .deb [ iscan_x.xx.x-x.ltdlx_i386.deb ] for release < 12.04, here or for release 12.04, here.
7. Download the esci-interpreter "core package" .deb [ esci-interpreter-gt-fxxx_x.x.x-x_i386.deb ] for release < 12.04, here or for release 12.04, here.
Epson Perfection 3170 Scanner Permissions in Elementary
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 16, 2014
I've been pulling out the few strands of hair left trying to get this scanner to work.
I've followed how-to here:
And information about "epkowa" drivers that seem like they should do the trick but I'm not sure if they're installed :S
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x0116) at libusb:001:007
I'm using the latest Elementary OS Distro and it seems I get stumped when trying to add permission for my user to the scanner. In any how to for the scanner it says to add permission:
15)Add yourself to the scanner group (adding the scanner group if needed)
System > Administration > Users and Groups > manage groups > unlock > add > check self
I can't find this menu or any variant of it. Is there a command line or file I can edit?
I got real close to having this scanner working until I hit a 32bit scanner/64 bit conflict
[SOLVED] Epson Perfection 2480 PHOTO scanner installation problem.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 7, 2008
I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 desktop amd64 version on my HP Compaq Preario SR1519UK AMD 64 Athlon Desktop as sole system.
All works fine except (there always has to be one fly-in-the-ointment) the system does not seem to find or recognise my scanner, an Epson Perfection 2480 PHOTO.
I have tried with the scanner plugged-in and unplugged (USB) at start up with the same result. XSane image scanner returns the error message "Failed to open device 'snapscan:libusb:003:003'; Invalid argument."
The Sane Project seems to support my scanner with driver "esfw41.bin".
The system recognises other hardware - Epson D92 printer and HP DeskJet 895C printer which both work OK. All other features work fine - email, web browser, speakers and display, with no crashes or unexpected results.
Can anyone help me to get my scanner working please?

Epson V300 flatbed scanner
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 3, 2008
I wondered if anyone has gotten the Epson V300 flatbed scanner working with Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10. I checked the Avasys and Sane sites but neither shows the V300 as a supported model. In another thread, Tuxi had no success getting this scanner working.
BTW, the V300 is the successor to the V200 and is Epson's current budget flatbed scanner.

I'm having problems getting my Epson 610 USB scanner working, after an upgrade to Maverick. It has worked well in every version of Ubuntu since 8.04, and it shows up in the device list just fine.

Problems installing USBScanner Epson Perfection 4490 on Ubuntu 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 5, 2013
I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and desperately trying to get my scanner working on Ubuntu 12.04 (it does work fine on my old pc, running win7).
I've searched the net but the information given seems mostly for older versions of ubuntu. I came across this post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1432944 where one of the newer answers indicated, that installing "simple scan" should be sufficient to get the scanner up and running. I've done that. When I start simple scan, I get a message saying that "No scanners detected".
Could anyone please provide some help or assistance? It would be greatly appreciated!

Firmware on Epson model 3490 scanner
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 6, 2014
I have an Epson model 3490 scanner on which the firmware does not seem to permanently reside on the hardware of the scanner but the firmware has to be reloaded (from file on hard drive of computer) to the scanner each and every time the power (AC) is turned off to the scanner.
Various forum instructions mention inserting line for loading binary file Esfw52.bin into configuration file to get the firmware loaded as part of getting this scanner to function.
I had never heard of this situation regarding firmware before. On all of the other devices I have ever dealt with hard drives, motherboards, video cards, etc., etc. they retain the firmware even if the AC is cut off to them.
Is it the norm that scanner hardware devices have to have the firmware reloaded to them after each and every power down or is this due to the fairly old age of this Epson 3490 scanner ?
Epson XP310 printer/scanner
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 4, 2015
I'm new to Linux, although I have worked with Unix.
I am trying to get my Epson XP-310 combo printer/scanner to work with my new Ubuntu 14.04. It worked fine with Ubuntu Studio 13.04.
Now my Compaq Presario laptop recognizes the printer and the printer responds, but all I get is blank pages. Most likely a driver issue, right?
So I searched the forums and found this link http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/se...h/searchModule where I am offered these downloads:
