Why are the popular software products not available for linux
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 12, 2008
What is the reason that big software developers who make products like Cubase, Propellerheads Reason, Autodesk Autocad, Adobe do not make their software available for linux based systems?
All those programs are available for OSX which is unix based like linux, so why not linux?
Why no BluRay players in Linux?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 24, 2012
Hey guys. First of all, I know that there are mplayer builds that "can" play Blu-Ray discs. However, a friend of mine was asking why there aren't any "commercial" paid players (e.g. PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.).
Are they scared that the players will be hacked more easily than on Windows to get the AACS key? So they don't get the license for the key? (if so who gives the license). Or do they think no one will buy such a player?
Interesting question I thought, just didn't know the answer. Thanks guys.
why is skype still available for Linux
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 27, 2013
This question might sound little weird, but why is skype still available for Linux? Microsoft bought skype two years ago. As far as I can recall MS never did anything for open source community. I also don't think they did anything for Linux (especially after huge rumors that they are porting MS-Office to linux). So why is skype still available for linux?

[SOLVED] Synaptic Package Manager error Linux Mint 13 Mate
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 24, 2013
Newbie question here.
Sorry if I've missed this exact problem in the forum - I tried to search but couldn't find it.
Anyway, after a clean install of Mint 13 Mate on my old Thinkpad T42, I immediately ran into problems with Mintupdate and Synaptic package manager. After some search I was able to update my Mint installation by sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade, and then I ran sudo apt dist-upgrade mintupdate. So far so good.
When trying to launch Synaptic after this it refuses to start. I followed a some tips/hints found in a few forums around, but no avail. To summarize: running the sudo synaptic command in terminal, I get the following error:
(synaptic:4450): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set_data: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(synaptic:4450): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance

[SOLVED] No power options in Linux Mint 13?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2012
Hi, I am running the new Linux mint 13 on my Dell laptop. When I close my lid, it goes to suspend. I can't find the option to change that. In the old Mint, I can type in Power in the search and it has an option to change the settings. So where is it in the new release? thank you
Oracle Linux 5.8 Installation Mirroring Catch 22 Help!
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 17, 2013
I need to install OL 5.8 (which is RHEL under the covers). Done it 100s of times before, but this time I want to mirror the installation across 2 brand new blank drives. Hardware RAID 1 is not an option, so it must be done with software.
During the installation, I get to the part of creating the Linux partitions, etc. Through trial and error, I have deduced the Make RAID Device screen (accessed by clicking the RAID button) will clone everything on a source drive to a target drive, thus creating a mirror. However, it will only do that IF the source drive contains 'software RAID' partitions ONLY. But it can't because the source drive HAS to have a boot (and swap) partition. Creating a software RAID partition of the entire drive 1 and then cloning it to drive 2 succeeds, but when you click Next, the installer says there is no boot partition defined and the installation cannot continue.
Thus, it seems it's a catch 22.
So, is it even possible to install Linux onto a (software) mirr
