NOOB needs an Opinion: best audio ripper?

Hello all! I am quite new to linux and have really enjoyed migrating my multimedia activities from Windoze over my Linux box. I am currently running Fedora Core 3 and am totally pleased with the utilities I have come across so far (mplayer, xine, xmms, k3b, etc.) I was wondering if some of you might provide me with some insight regarding your favorite tools (and any related plugins, codecs etc.) for ripping audio tracks from CD into mp3 format?
Cheers

Best Linux Video Editing System
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 21, 2009
It's been almost a year since I've done any video editing in Linux, so I'm wondering what program is currently the best for that sort of thing. Back when I was editing footage, Cinelerra was heading the pack, but some other programs were catching up.
I need to be able to do basic video sequencing, as well as chroma-keying, compositing, and (maybe) video stabilization. A program that works fast and doesn't crash a lot is a plus. Anyone know what's the best application for that purpose, currently?
All audio/ video running too fast (and no sound let me explain)

Hello there! Another mundane question:
When on YouTube watching a video or on VLC or movie player or rhythmbox there is no sound and the video plays at 2x or more speed. It was working before I restarted my computer so that must mean that one of the changes I made between then caused it, so:
I have messed about trying to install and remove desktop art plugin for rhythmbox, which, by the way, still isn't working so as an encore you could fix that for bonus points
I have also installed Compiz recently with the extras and something called subversion, which I apparently needed for the plugin...
If you need any more information then please ask and I shall set about finding it!
Thanks, Jamie

MPlayer Audio/Video out of sync
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 24, 2005
Hi, I compiled the latest version of MPlayer(v1.0pre7try2) from source. And I downloaded the codecs from the MPlayer website, too.
Everything works as expected except this small irritation.
When I play a rmvb file, and try to fast-forward it with the "Page Up" button, the audio and video start to go out of sync and never come back. Luckily, if I watch it from the beginning to the end this problem doesn't happen. Xine works well, too.
I tried to specify these options and it works, but ugrily(it needs about 2 seconds to sync them back).
Code:
mplayer length of audio/video
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 17, 2011
Hi,
i was wondering if there is a way to find out length of audio/video using mplayer and print it to output.
Something like this
# mplayer --print-length-to-output video.avi
154.4
What do you think?
I was not able to find out how to do that using mplayer. Thanks for answers.
Karmic 64bit Firefox Flash audio/video sync
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 27, 2009
Having a minor, but annoying, problem in 64-bit Karmic with Firefox 3.5 and Adobe Flash 10.0.32.18 when playing internet streaming file.
In any Flash video >10 minutes, the audio and video go badly out of sync at about the 10-minute mark. It happens on any site with a long Flash video (Youtube, all news sites). Downloading the video using youtube-dl command or Firefox Video Resource Downloader and playing locally fixes the sync problem.
I am currently using the manually-installed 64-bit alpha player from Adobe's website. The problem also occurred when the 32-bit player from the repositories was installed.
I've found some great material in here on fixing very pervasive Jaunty/Karmic sound problems, but nothing recent on the audio/video being out of sync on longer files. Any help much appreciated.
please wait...
