Video: 18 Ubuntu Linux Games in Synaptic
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 13, 2008
Hey everyone!
I feel like I've been away for so long, when in actuality, I've just been maintaining our own community over at Category5. Hope you're all well!
Just did a feature on Category5 tonight where I demonstrated 18 great games in Ubuntu that are freely available and installable directly from Synaptic Package Manager, making them the ultimate games for new Linux users (as they're SO easy to install). Hoping that the fact that we show each game in the video will help you find at least a few games that you'll really enjoy on your Ubuntu system.
I wanted to share the video with the Ubuntu community, so here it is:

Happy gaming, Ubuntu users!

Do you remember the Indie title Amnesia the Dark Descent? A great Survival-horror game released in 2010 that has had a lot of success, and if you don’t know it, check it on the net, it’s probable that with the release of the new game you can find it at a discounted price. But I’m here to talk about Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Dear Esther comes this new first-person horrorgame that will drag you to the depths of greed, power and madness, sound interesting enough?

Force Feedback Joysticks Linux Games
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 13, 2007
Good Day All,
Are there any linux games that will work with a force feedback joystick and the force feedback will work? I really like the feel and I'm getting tired of booting into MS Windows to get this.
Thanks,

Good Linux games for netbooks?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 19, 2009
I just picked up a Latitude 2100, atom 1.6 ghz, Ubuntu 8.10
I'm not expecting amazing graphics performance out of it but so far I haven't been able to find many games. The one I really wanted, tux racer won't run on it because of the 1024 x 576 resolution.
I don't mind simple games, just looking for some good fun stuff to play around with. I'm not too thrilled with most of what I have seen so far using Synaptic... any recommendations for good stuff that will run on this machine?
I'd like a bejeweled-like game if there is one. What about the Nintendo emulators, will they work with the limited resolution and graphics capabilities of a netbook?
Thanks!
native linux games?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 21, 2008
I made the switch to ubuntu from windows about 3-4 months ago from windows and it was one of the best decisions i have made, but there is only one thing missing. After trying to search as hard as i could, i have noticed that there are no linux games available that have graphics and gameplay comparable to its windows counterpart. Linux games now still dont even match games made years ago for windows. Most games i find dont even have somewhat decent graphics.
Is this because of some limitation that linux has or is it because developers that create open source games dont perform to the same standard of game development because they arent paid? (no offense intended) I would really like at least just one good game with good graphics (doesnt have to be amazingly over-detailed) that i could run natively in linux, and im sure alot of people would agree with me.
If someone else agrees with me and already has some kind of project, back when i had winblows i did alot of 3d modeling for mod

It is always a delight to see native Linux games running on different types of machines/ hardware. Last week I stumbled on this article by Pat Regan showing native Linux games from latest Humble Indie Bundle running on a self made Arcade Cabinet. The machine sports a 24 inch LCD Monitor, an Athlon X2 3800+ with 1 GB of RAM, a 320 GB SATA disk, an I-PAC 4 board and a 64MB NVIDIA 6200 LE PCIe video card. The system runs 32 bit Ubuntu 10.10. Many native Linux games are playable on this machine including VVVVVV, Gish, Cave Story, Voxatron and Blocks That Matter.
