location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 11, 2011
Hi guys! Help me, can i use all packages in Debian 5 Lenny DVDs (1-6) without any problem in my Ubuntu Server 10.04? For example using apt-cdrom and apt-update, apt-install xxxx ?. Would't affect these actions for potential errors?
Thank in advance
[SOLVED] Choosing between Ubuntu Server 9.10 and 9.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 27, 2009
Would Ubuntu Server 9.10 when it comes out be better to use in my new server or would Ubuntu Server 9.04 be better.
Ubuntu Server 9.04 has had lots of updates and the newer 9.10 hasn't, so which would be more secure and which would have better performance.
I will be using the Ext4 filesystem if I use 9.10
Thanks!

Best Emulators For Ubuntu.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 22, 2011
Hi, first time posting so apologies if this is the wrong forum. Myself and a friend have decided to build a mini ITX PC into a Mega Drive casing with the intention of using it as an emulator box (pics when it's finished). It's at the point where all the major components are installed but we need to find the emulators themselves so does anyone have (or has a link to) a list of the best emulators on Ubuntu for Mega Drive, SNES etc?

How mush RAM do I need (Linux / ubuntu server)?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 5, 2008
I need advice regarding memory needed on my system.
I am running a small home network with a ubuntu server. It runs on an AMD X2 4000 processor and currently 1 GB of RAM. The server is used for everything from fileserver (SMB), apache, mailserver to mythtv backend (with encoding to xvid on all new recordings).
I also use the server as "my" desktop... since I am now forbidden to touch my wifes client with XP...
OS: Ubuntu Gutsy x86_64 (64 bit).
The system works OK no major issus, but I feel the startup of some application is a bit slow. Like firefox, I moved to swiftfox but no major change in start up time of the appliation. OK.. this is not an issue.. normaly I start this once or twice a day.. so I guess I can wait the extra seconds...
So why this question about RAM... - When I look att the RAM used (via free) I see that 95% of the RAM is used an about 1GB of the SWAP. I have lowered the swapiness to 10.. still I feel this is a bit high. Before when using 32
Ubuntu server is playing games with onboard dual NIC.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 20, 2010
Hello everyone. Looking for a little help here.
I have a few Dell Poweredge 2850 servers that I am going to be setting up as test machines for some cisco training I will be doing.
These systems have dual gigabit NICs onboard the motherboard. This is my setup:
eth0 = 192.168.1.10
eth1 = 192.168.1.20
If I setup a ping on my other machine to both these addresses at the same time, and pull one of the network cables out of the server, both pings continue without an issue. If I plug that cable back in, and remove the other network cable, the pings continue without an issue (both of them!). It is only after I remove both of the cables that the pings fail. Below is my /etc/network/interfaces file.
Code:
