Install/Uninstall iTunes with WINE
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 1, 2010
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my husband's laptop. He insists that I install iTunes.
Wine comes with the 10.04 release. I downloaded iTunes 22.214.171.124(32x) and it appeared to install ok. It said it was successful. However, immediately upon the 'installation successful' notification, another window popped up that said, "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Whenever I try to open iTunes, this error message pops up. I used the WINE uninstall option for iTunes, however, the window pops up giving the option to either repair or uninstall, and when I click uninstall it appears to go through the process and even says it did - only to discover the fine print telling me that it "installed" the program sucessfully. This is very frustrating. I cannot seem to get the program to uninstall.
I found a thread that said to delete the files manually, but I don't know how to do this.
I need to uninstall iTunes and reinstall i
Problem opening iTunes download with Wine with Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 16, 2011
I've run into some problems while trying to install iTunes onto my system (Ubuntu 10.10) using Wine. I've installed Wine and configured everything properly, and then I download iTunes. I've tried downloading several versions, including 7.2 (older version) and the newest version (iTunes 10). However, when I try to open this downloaded file, I get the message:
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe or
/home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/candyshop/Downloads/iTunesSetup.exe.ZIP, period.
Can anyone tell me why I am running i
Problems with Wine and iTunes.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 19, 2010
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, and installed Wine, so that I could use iTunes. iTunes worked relatively well, but wouldn't recognize my iPhone. I thought it would be a good idea to uninstall it and reinstall it. Well, it won't let me uninstall it. It pops up with a program error, saying "The program msiexec.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then the add/remove programs in Wine freezes and won't respond, though it will let me move the window around. I would like to get iTunes off of my computer and then start fresh with something that will work properly. I am not familiar with Linux at all, so anything would be appreciated.
Ubuntu/Kubuntu with WINE
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2013
Right now I have no Linux PC. Previously I had an Ubuntu 8.04 PC, which has since crashed. However, I have a Windows 7 PC that I'm thinking of overwriting (or MAYBE making a dual boot) and installing either Ubuntu 13.04 or Kubuntu 13.04. I've never used WINE before, but am thinking of giving it a shot because there are a few applications that don't have Linux version that I must use. I was poking around on the WINE web page and found a list of downloads (http://www.winehq.org/download). Is it a different download depending on whether I choose Ubuntu or Kubuntu? Obviously, the first option listed is for Ubuntu. However, I was reading that Kubuntu is based on Debian, so is the right WINE the second link on that list? Or is it the same WINE as Ubuntu.
And, of course, I need to make a choice between Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Ubuntu might be a good choice because I've used it before. Kubuntu might be a good choice because it's KDE and I've found I really like KDE software.
Blocked: wine start /unix problem opening .exes with Wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 1, 2010
When I try to open an .exe I get the following error message:
The file '/home/jake/Downloads/shotgun_funfun.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.
I don't know anything about wine at all except for if you open up an .exe with it it should install it/run it. What am I missing? Is there a solution to this?

A linux distrobution with WINE built into the kernel? Possible?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 10, 2012
Hello, I was just wondering if the Linux kernel could be compiled to contain the WINE libraries and core WINE functionality. Wouldn't this improve the speed and overall performance level of WINE apps. So basically a Linux distro with the chief priority of being compatible with Windows apps? Thanks for any insight.
ATI Radeon HD Can't play games with Wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 25, 2011
I'm having trouble running games in Wine since I've switched video cards. Thing is, benchmarks work fine and I downloaded 3dMark2000 and it works fine while running in Wine. I'm a gamer and I'm about to put down Ubuntu for good, i don't want to go back to Windows, but I'm afraid I may have to if I can't find a remedy.
Any help at all would be appreciated.
