Blender will not open on Xubuntu 11.10
- date: September 16, 2012
Hello folks I hope someone here can help me. I have been using Linux Mint for a little over 2 years now and have gotten used to it. However because of some kernel and compatibility problems I had to install Xubuntu 11.10.
Now my problem is that I need to install blender 2.63a which is the latest. I have downloaded it and unpacked it to my home folder as I have always done in Mint. But on Xubuntu 11.10 blender will not open. Clicking on the blender shortcut does nothing and running it from the terminal gives me this error.
./blender: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Installing from the repo is not an option for me since the one on it is a very very old version. Due to some new features that I need it has to be 2.63a.
Also I know there are some 3rd party ppas out there but those only seem to install nightly builds which is also not an option for me as I ca
GNOME terminal will not open in Ubuntu 10.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 21, 2011
I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 for about a month with no problems.
I've installed recommended packages as needed but nothing else.
For some reason, when I open a terminal window now, it cursur flashes for a few seconds then the window closes. I have researched the problem a little bit.
I tried installing Konsole to see if I can get an error message that's of some use.
When I open Konsole it displays: "Warning: Program '/bin/bash' crashed."
Any ideas what to make of this?
Torque server will not initialize correctly [11.10]
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 6, 2012
I have been trying for 3 days now to get Torque server working on my installation of Ubuntu 11.10.
At first I went for the ease of the Ubuntu Software Center. Once installation is complete, it starts the server process on its own without adding root as a server manager. If I try to terminate the server using qterm or add root as a manager using qmgr I always get an "Unauthorized Request" error.
I removed the installation and then tried again using "apt-get install torque-server" in a root csh shell. The same problem appears again. My reading of the Admin guide on the Adaptive Computing website states that after installation the server is started using the torque.setup command in which the server manager is specified. It seems in my situation that torque.setup is put away in /usr/share/doc/torque/ and cannot be executed because the server is running right after installation. I tried killing the server process but that did not help either. I checked the se

[solved]Try(hd0, 0): ntfs5: error: "prefix is not set" after installing Xubuntu 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 21, 2012
I'm trying to install Xubuntu 11.10 from Windows XP for almost 20 hours now. I tried at least 5 times, changing partitions, installing in online and offline mode, but when I restart PC after Wubi finish the install, and I choose to boot Xubuntu on the boot menu I'm getting this error:
Try(hd0, 0): ntfs5: error: "prefix is not set"
I can't install it from CD because I don't have a Disk Burner right now, nor I have a big enough USB stick(yup, I know it sounds silly for 2012 ).
I think I'm good enough to follow your instructions, but I am almost completely new in Ubuntu field, so please try to explain as good as possible
I hope this data will help you to understand my problem:
- I did a disk check from XP on both partitions - there are no errors.
-I have partitions C: and E:. Xubuntu is currently installed on E:.
-Content of C:/boot.ini:
MythTV on nvidia dual screen will not open videos on TV
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 4, 2008
I have nvidia dual screen spanning across my monitor and TV screen. MythTV opens on the TV and I'm still able to use the monitor. MythTv plays back recorded shows and watches TV on the TV. However when I open up videos, they open on the monitor. I have played around with mplayer command line flags but cannot get mythTV or mplayer by itself to open up the mplayer window on the TV.
I have searched and found one thread, but no solutions,

The networking was disabled and there was no network connections available (i right clicked on wireless icon and it says its enabled but there still was no connections available).

[SOLVED] Filesystem not mounting Ubuntu 11.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 22, 2012
I am trying to boot into my Ubuntu 11.10 partition and after the purple screen the boot scripts just stop. I have multiple partitions.
1. Backtrack 5
2. Slackware 13.37
3. Ubuntu 11.10 <-- The Problem
4. Ubuntu 10.04
I can access the 11.10 filesystem from other partitions but I cant access my home folder because it's encrypted, I tried running ecryptfs-mount-private but it doesnt seem to be recognized as a command. In the 10.04 partition I try to access it, but I get a message window saying that the file is broken. Is there a way to remedy this, I am trying to do my best with what I know but its not working. If someone knows a way to fix this I would be greatly appreciative.
USB stick will not boot Ubuntu 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2011
I am feeling that I am banging my head against a brick wall and am fearful of enjoying it.
I wish to work with Ubuntu 11.04 but rather than see how it looks from a Live CD my thought was to have the OS on a USB stick. By using the USB my idea was that any changes I wished to make would be saved and could be altered without having to start from scratch when using a Live CD.
I therefore followed the instruction on the Ubuntu download page but have not been able to load 11.04 from the stick.
At the moment I have 2 laptops dual booted. One has windows XP & Lucid the other windows 7 and Lucid. Attempting to load 11.04 on the stick only results in the usual Grub options but there appears to be no option that would permit booting into 11.04.
I have my Boot Sequence set as : Removable, CD/DVD, Hard Drive & finally Network so I really expected that the USB would have been read and actioned.
How can I boot 11.04 from the stick? Where am I going wrong ?
