XP PRO Keyboard Problem in VMWARE Player
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 18, 2007
Totally new to Linux world, started in PC with DOS 3. I have a Gateway MX6445 laptop (MM Type wide screen). It came with XP Media Edition. I tried several flavors of Linux in VM Player and settled on ubuntu. I then installed 7.10 in a dual boot and since 7.10 found my wireless card and I was able to connect to me network, I took the big plunge and installed 7.10 again, this time wiping out everything MS on the machine and reformatting the HD. Now I'm trying to get XP PRO to run in VMWARE Player running in 7.10. I've been lucky, since I now have XP-PRO up and running, and I am able to use my wireless card in XP to get to my network and the Internet. My last problem is that XP-PRO thinks it's dealing with a normal keyboard and when I'm typing, the keys that are also the numpad on the laptop display numbers rather than letters. Hope that makes sense. My company has an enterprise license for XP-Pro so using virtual images isn't a legal issue, I just can't figure out how to "turn off&q
Real Player and XMMS "Cannot open audio device" SuSE 9 pro
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 4, 2004
I regularly use Real Player 8 under SuSE 9 pro, but every time I boot up my computer and start Real Player, I get a message saying "Connot open audio device", with buttons for "OK" and "More Info" If I select "More Info", the message box disappears, but no sign of nay more information appears, I just can't get any sound. I also have similar problems using XMMS.
If I delete and then reinstall my sound card usind YaST, everything works ok until I reboot or log in again, when the prolem occurs again. As the problem does not occur when I log in as root, I'm guessing it could be a file permission problem.
Any help would be appreciated. As I'm no erxpert, please try to use language I'm likely to understand.
updating Amazon's video player
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 26, 2012
I've been watching a lot of tv shows through Amazon Prime lately (since Netflix doesn't support Linux, they're basically our only option). Today though, when I tried to use their web-player (on firefox), I got a message saying it needed to update. I waited for the download bar to fill, and when it finished, it gave the following error:
"An error occurred and your player could not be updated. This is likely because your Flash Player or Browser needs to be updated. This update is required to play back this video."
I figured this was because flash has stopped providing linux updates, so I tried to use Amazon's player on both Chromium and Chrome and I got the same result.
Does anyone know what I can do to get the necessary updates (or just bypass them and get the player to work anyway)?
ps. I realize in retrospect that this is probably the wrong forum for this thread. If anyone would care to move it, I'd be fine with that.
edit: figured it out. Feel free to delete this thre
Amazon MP3 downloads from cloud player
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 4, 2012
I used to buy albums from the Amazon MP3 store via the link in Banshee. Since Amazon have introduced their cloud player, this doesn't work any more. Songs are automatically added to the Cloud Player and you can only download them one at a time as Amazon's downloader doesn't work in linux.
I'm running UBUNTU 12.04.
Triple boot help with latest Ubuntu distro on Apple Mac book Pro with Bootcamp.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 30, 2011
I am using Bootcamp with a dual boot function with Mac OSX Snow Leopard and Windows 7. I now want to introduce a 30gb partition for the latest Ubuntu Distro.
I really want to be careful to ensure I dont break anything as it works perfectly at the moment. I have used Rfix and Bootpicker to manage the dual boot processes as well as using the option key in Bootcamp to boot into each OS.
Does anyone have any advice how I could create a new partiton for me to use for Linux. I want to make a 30gb partion.
Any step by step instructions would be fantastic. I really want to improve my Linux skills and want to run it natively rather than thru a virtual machine using VMware or Parallels.
[SOLVED] Having trouble installing Flash player onto ChrUbuntu on the ARM based Chromebook
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 9, 2013
I am on a Samsung Series ARM based Chromebook. I installed an alpha of Ubuntu 12.04 that was redisigned for the Chromebook (The download and install is here http://chromeos-cr48.blogspot.co.uk/...pha-1-now.html).
I installed it fine, got most of what I needed working, all I couldn't get to work was the flash player. I was using Chromium and I couldn't figure out how to install the flash player into ChrUbuntu. I found various sources saying to copy the flash player from the ChromeOS and then paste it into the ChrUbuntu side.
Is there anyone who could give some instructions on this? I love Ubuntu now that I have seen how capable it is on this netbook and I would love to have flash on it so I could use it full time, could anyone help? Any is appreciated!
PS: I only posted in this board since I'm new to Linux and this forum, so if there is somewhere in the forum that would be better suited to this question I'd appreciate if someone told me, thanks again!

I need a media player!
location: linux.com - date: October 12, 2011
I have finally gotten CentOS 6.0 64 bit installed!
I want to start my training with the DVD's I ordered, but there is one problem...I cannot play any DVD's on this OS. I am thinking it just doesn't have one to start with. I have heard of "xine", but I don't understand how to download it.
Can anyone please help me install a media player. Please give me links and easy to understand directions, because I'm completely new to this. I'm just so used to a more user friendly operating system.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I recently bought a macbook pro 13.3 inch.

But despite add "options snd-hda-intel model=mbp55" or not, there is no sound
I've checked alsa-mixer that "PCM" and "MASTER" are not mute.
Does someone has the same problem? or any suggestion?
