Burning DVDvideo, only 35 minutes is ok
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 2, 2005
I have a movie prepared for DVD, structure is ok with all files correct.
The DVD-movie consists of 3 .mpg movies in dvd-pal format, length is 30 min, 10min, 10 min.
The initial three .mpg-movies play fine, the three VTS_01_#.VOB also plays fine.
Now I burn it using k3b or 'dvdrecord' or 'growisofs' or 'mkisofs' followed by 'cdrecord'
Same result: 35 minutes plays ok, then sound starts stuttering followed by movie stuttering, strange colored squares appear, more and more of this and finally movie stops about 11 minutes before end.
I made a new movie, this time with only the last two movies. The disc played just fine.
So it's a burning-problem, can't burn more than 35 minutes.
I tried changing speed, normally burns at 4x, but gets
:-( Failed to change write speed: 2770->3324 (tried 1x 2x 3x) or dvdrecord simply ignores the -speed
In k3b I chose "ignore" for speed, now it burned in 2x, but same problem. I bought a new IDE-cable but no change, hdparm reports udma2. C

MythTV+HandBrake: Only encoding 1st 5 minutes of any video in Ubuntu Oneiric
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 2, 2012
I am using HandbrakeCLI on Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10 with myth TV and I seem to be only to encode up to 5 minutes of video, no matter how long the source video file is. MythTV captures the full TV show OK.
here is my command to HandBrakeCLI :
HandBrakeCLI -b 1500 -E lame -B 128 -R Auto -f mp4 -w 1248 -l 702 --crop 0:0:0:0 -d fast -i "$1" -o "$2"
Here is the output of a 30 minute video file recorded. I can encode a 5 minute TV recorded file just fine.
Anything over 5 minutes, and only the 1st 5 minutes are only encoded.
Below we see how only 17% of this 30 minute source video was encoded, then Handbrake just exits out, without any errors..

K3b 2.0.2: Burning the VIDEOTS files onto a DVD (DVDVideo format).
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 12, 2014
I have my VIDEO_TS files ready to burn onto a DVD. I run K3b and choose "New Video DVD project". This immediately creates two directories in the bottom window: VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. So, if I want to drag & drop my files, I am forced to do it one by one, which is no little work. Any way to drag & drop the VIDEO_TS directory?
You can see for example the following page:
There it says:
3. Navigate to the location of your AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories.
4. Drag and drop these directories into the lower pane.
Well, this just doesn't work. Doing as in 4. just creates subdirectories under VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS. It seem impossible to move VIDEO_TS to make a child of the "K3b data project" directory.
Kubuntu vs. Ubuntu: KDE the only difference?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 3, 2009
I recently made an Ubuntu liveCD for a family member, and tested it myself first. It impressed me, so I might possibly be interested in switching distros; but I'm not very familiar with Gnome(GNOME?), so I might try Kubuntu instead. Am I correct in understanding that the only difference is Kubuntu uses KDE (hence the K)? If there are other differences, does Kubuntu share the limited user control that I've heard Ubuntu has, such as locking the root account by default? (It was three years ago that I heard that. For all I know, it's no longer a problem.)

location: linux.com - date: December 20, 2009

Burning or converting ccd, img, sub to CD?
location: linux.com - date: August 3, 2009
Ok so I'm the kind of person to do his reasurch before asking questions but now I'm just stuck.
I can't really find a way to burn a CDimage that's made from cloneCD so if anyone has an idea I'd apreciate it.
Just as info I'm running xubuntu/ubuntu desktops and I've already tried using ccd2iso and K3D to make an iso. I've also tried finding a .deb package for ISOmount but no luck.

Ubuntu 10.10 boots to Grub bash only
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 19, 2011
Hi. I had Ubuntu installed via wubi and been using it for some time now. Never had problems until today.
The screen where it displays Windows XP and Ubuntu gets shown, I choose Ubuntu. Then the second screen with which you can choose Generic, Generic (Recovery Mode), etc (Sorry I'm a newbie and I don't know what it's called) doesn't show. It goes to the grub command line and honestly, I don't know how to get past that.
Please help, thank you.
switching from ufw to iptables, config rules ok & enough or not?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 27, 2013
Some time ago I had iptables set on a Darwin running workstation, but now I realise that most of the rules I had were not really helping. Not sure if they could have done any evil... luckily I was behind another router enabled firewall. Because I like iptables more than ufw, I'd like to completely remove ufw and use iptables only. After reading* and a little bit of thinking , I imagined how the iptables config would look like. But before it would be great to know from the experts here if the config lines below are fine and enough.
I am not doing routing, nor do I have any servers running at this time, nor any LAN. I'll definitely setup a ftp and web server for testing in a few weeks, but right now all I'm doing beyond the local interface is browsing and reading emails, listening music, kinda regular stuff. I am going out through a router which provides DHCP fixed addressing (via mac filtering).
However, I am using OpenDNS servers instead of my providers', they are configured through
