Want to set up a box for public use in a cafe. Need to control the usage.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 29, 2013
I DID look for similar threads, and there are some, but they are all very old, and none deal exactly with what I want to do.
I'm so new here that I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help or not, so if it isn't please don't scold me....just point me to the right place if you will.
I have recently started dusting off old desktop computers I have laying around, and installing Linux Mint 14 Mate on them. They work so well, I asked a friend who has a truck stop/diner with WiFi if she would like for me to set one of these boxes up for public use for patrons who don't have a laptop. She liked the idea, but wants to be sure "bad sites" cannot be accessed. (understandably).
If I could find something like the paid version of Webconverger or Net Nanny that I could get for free, I think I could figure out how to do what we want to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
ZipSlack und X
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 10, 2003
I downloaded and installed ZipSlack and wish to add X to it. I installed xfree86-4.3.0-i386-2.tgz & xfree86-fonts-misc-4.3.0-noarch-1.tgz, configured it with xf86config but its crashes...
Maybe it needs some more packages? Which ones?

hi, i'm a owner of cyber cafe, and switched qwest T1 to Cox Business Cable.
Cox give me 64 IP Address and i want to set all of our computer has static IP for indivisually. So i asked cox tech. that how do i use all 64 IP address for my network, they said i have to buy Router or make Linux Router. So i installed ubuntu and installed webmin to set my linux machine as router. After that i followed instruction on webmin and i'm just stucked....Have no idea......
Cox Tech told me I have to route my 64 IP to Main IP address come from Cox Modem, and they said i can do that if i make linux system with webmin.
Here is what i want to do.
I just installed ubuntu on computer, and installed two Netwroks card.
and i have main ip (i'll call is as 188.8.131.52.) and they also give me extra 64 IPs that i need to route it to my main ip 184.108.40.206. (i'll say my extra IPs as 220.127.116.11 ~ 18.104.22.168)
and i installed WEBMIN on ubuntu, i don't know how to route the IPs...
if anyone knows, please help me.
Many MySQL, Apache und named processes eat all the RAM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2013
I run a VPS on Ubuntu Server 10.04. The server has something about 750 Mb RAM, which is, soon after the server has started, almostly all consumed by numerous mysqld, named and apache2 processes:
There are 2-4 websites with very little traffic running on this server.
Can I somehow optimise this or I simply need more RAM? I think there is something wrong, that a server without any serious workload consumes so much memory.

I would really appreciate the input.

Setting Up A Computer For A Cyber Cafe
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 1, 2012
Hi guys, I'll start off by saying sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, since it doesn't matter if it's answered for Windows or Linux. Ok, what I'm trying to do is set up a computer to be used for somewhat of a cyber cafe, that's the best term I can think of. The computer is going to be in a public place and people will pay with credit card to use it. What I need is primarily two things:
1. Block all programs except for things like Firefox and OpenOffice, so that whoever is using it can't mess things up.
2. This is the tricky one, which I've been having trouble even finding Windows software for it. Basically what needs to happen (I've seen this implemented at Staples) is that the customer swipes their credit card on a box connected to the computer, and the computer unlocks for them to use. It shows a timer in the corner of the screen, and it charges however much per minute. Then, when the customer is finished, they click a button, and the receipt is printed, and th
