Internet cafe voucher setup
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 28, 2013
I have what is probably not such a hard problem but I can't seem to find exactly what I need.
I want to help my brother in law set up a wireless internet cafe. Basically I want to set up my wireless ap, connect that to a ubuntu server pc as a gateway and connect the gateway pc to the internet.
Basically like a proxy server setup. I have done this before using squid to authenticate users and block certain url's. Now I want to set up a voucher system where customers would pay for say 200 mb of data. When the data is up they get redirected to a failure page notifying them that they need to purchase another voucher.
This mission is important to me, since I have been trying to conver my brother in law to the light side ( read : away from windows).
I can handle all the cli stuff neccesary, but for the sake of the person working in the internet cafe I would prefer to have a gui or web ui for the issuing of vouchers.
I hope that you can point me in the right direction.

Linux Server for an Internet Cafe?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 8, 2012
I am a hardware expert but software is my weak point.
We are opening an "internet cafe" at my church for an outreach. The cafe is going to be so much more then just the internet but let's concentrate on that part.
I have an Dell Poweredge 2950 server with one quad core CPU in it. I looked at going with a MS Server software but it is cost prohibitive.
I currently have 4 desktops set up for people to use all running XP Home and I have 5 Laptops coming in that will be running XP Home or Pro.
People will be allowed to bring their own systems in and access the internet. These will be most likely XP to 7.
Here is what I am wanting to do:
1. I would like to create an image of my in house systems so I can restore them from the server if needed.
2. Restrict sites such as pornographic and pirated software.
3. Get a report at the end of the day where computers did go on the net.
4. Have a computer go to a page when they bring up a browser having the per
Setting up Squid 2.5 for Internet Cafe
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 16, 2004
I am opening up a internet cafe and I am setting up a Squid Server (v2.5) for about 50 Computers. I am only using a aDSL connection @ 1024k, and I am trying to find ways to cheat on bandwidth.
Other than Squid what tools would be needed so that Squid works great and I can monitor it easily.
If possibile I would love to have some sort of Intrusion system that can also handle wifi (future expansion)
Lastly what would be the lightest OS I can run this on? BSD?
Any tutorials anyOne Can Recommend or helpful tips?
2.8 Intel Xeon
2GB DDR RAM
50 GB 10k RPM Hard Drives (3)
Dual 10/100/1000 Nic Cards

Sometimes I get woken up from my sleep because I have this urge to get here. If that happens, I will feel sick to my stomach until I get here. Either that, or I am hungry and when I start posting here, I ignore it. Either way, This subforum has got me hooked 0_0.

Non-profit Panera cafe: Take what you need, pay what you can
By Bruce Horovitz, USA TODAY
Imagine walking into a Panera Bread and picking out anything you wanted to eat or drink ó then, at the end of the line, instead of handing your money to a cashier, you faced a donation box.
What would you do if you knew that some of the money you placed in the box would be used to train at-risk youths or to feed folks lacking funds to feed themselves?
That's what Panera Bread is trying to find out this week in an outside-the-box experiment in St. Louis...
