Can Not Run VMWare on Manjaro Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 18, 2014
I have an older machine running Manjaro Linux.AMD Sempron 3100 @ 1.8GHz I have 2 Gigs of RAM and this machine runs fine as far as day to day use. It's plenty fast. I can install and run VMWare BUT the install process is painfully slow. When I try to run anything it takes forever to boot and lags so bad after that boot it is not really useable.
When loading a virtual machinie I always use the 32 bit versions and have tried giving it from 512 mgs RAM all the way up to 1.5 gigs. When I use like 1.5gig of RAM I may see a little more response but very little IF ANY.
I like VMWare better [on other computers I have tried it on] than the other virtualization programs but I still can't get any to work on this or my laptop which has almaost exactly the same specs.
Is this just because of the old machine or might I be doing something wrong?
I can not run a live disc in windows 8
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 2, 2013
I I have a shiny new laptop with windows 8 on it which I have tried to tame with "classic shell" but I still hate it. I want to try Zorin.
I down loaded Zorin 6.3 64 bit ran MD5sum and burnt the ISO using Cyber2Go at 2x and verified it. The disc runs fine on my husbands windows 7 machine.
I did some research and concluded we needed to switch off secure boot and set the boot sequence to do DVD first.
We did this and restarted with the Zorin disc in, the disc drive made a few noises and windows 8 opened.
We tried shutting off then starting again, still windows.
I read somewhere in the Zorin forum that windows 8 hypersleeps???? So we removed the battery for a few minutes and then tried again. Still windows.
I looked at another forum I visit (the Elder Geeks) and they suggested disabling ďfast startupĒ in the power settings, so I did that. It still boots into windows 8.
How on earth do you make it run a live disc??????
The machine is a Compaq P

I am trying to install a program called "alternative transients program" in ubuntu. It does not exist in any repositories, those who want to get it have to aquire a license from the organization (although it is free). Anyway, the installation text says this:
(1) Copy atplinux.zip to a temporary directory, and unarchive it.
# pkunzip atplinux.zip
Move the following files to the install directory of ATP.
and more .aux files
If tpbig, armafit and runtp cannot run, set the attribute like as follows;
chmod 0755 tpbig armafit runtp atv atg
Write the following in .bashrc file. GNUDIR=/home/atp/ <----- where you put startup, graphics and graphics.aux export GNUDIR Add the directory where you put tpbig, armafit and runtp to PATH.
Can i run Windows and linux on the Same computer, and how? (NO LINUX EXPERIENCE)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 14, 2004
I'm new to the linux OS, and read about it in PC World and want to give it a try. I have windows 98, and want to have both OS's on my computer (old Pentium 2 model at 333mhz). I'm not sure how much space on the hard drive I will need (will check later) and I really just want to give Linux a shot. Also, how would you go about un-installing Linux (just in case I don't like it)?

I need help. I am new in Linux. And I have some problems.
I mount /dev/sda2 into /var/www/html and I create a folder "web1" in /var/www/html. But when I use /var/www/html without mounting a /dev/sda2 apache works perfectly.
