[solved] install bootable live USB for Ubuntu 13.04 with linux
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 29, 2013
I installed Ubuntu 13.04 on my USB stick using Universal USB Installer in Windows. This worked fine and I was able to boot. However, I destroyed my Windows installation (trying to install Ubuntu) and I don't have a working windows system at home currently. I have tried using Unetbootin to install "ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64.iso", however, it does not boot. I can seem the files are there. I download a new image in case it was corrupt but that made no difference. I can install "linuxmint-14.1-mate-dvd-64bit.iso" with Unetbootin (and Manjaro) and it boots fine. Is there something special about Ubuntu 13.04? I have also tried the dd command but that never gives a booting USB.

Issue with mouse [Ubuntu 13.04]/Chrubuntu}
location: linux.com - date: May 20, 2013
I have the Acer C7 Chromebook running Ubuntu 13.04. In Chrome OS you put both fingers on the mousepad ( I guess that's name.. ) to right click, well in Ubuntu you have to click on the right side of the pad and sometimes it gets hard do a double-finger scroll. I was hoping ( even though this should be in Ubuntu forums ) if someone could help out. It's not a rare problem in chrubuntu that I've noticed but if there is a fix I'd be grateful! When I get home I'll try to work on the issue when I get the chance and hopefully try to get in double finger right-clicking with the scrolling :(.
Error when trying to install Win7 64bit guest on ubuntu 13.04 server host using VBox
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 23, 2013
I have an ubuntu server version 13.04 and got Virtualbox installed on it. Now I am trying to install Windows Ultimate 64 bit as guest.
Well, I can't. Once the setup reaches about 50% all the services related to virtualbox get frozen and can't become responsive again till I reboot the server.
The Setup : 32GB Host RAM, Guest : 16 GB RAM.
The server logs and screen shows this error when the problem happens :
kernel : ACPI Error: SMBus/IPMI/GenericSerialBus write requires Buffer of length 66, found length 32 (20121018/exfield-299)
kernel : ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PMI0._PMM] (Node ffff880411c4e820), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT (20121018/psparse-537)
kernel : ACPI Exception: AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT, Evaluating _PMM (20121018/power_meter-339)
I've tested the RAM of server previously with ubuntu boot CD and found no problems.
Also apparmor is disabled.
The server got dual Xeon CPUs, HP Proliant ML370 G6.
OS is updated.

can't run Mir properly on ubuntu 13.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 17, 2013
I've recently tried to install Mir desktop on my ubuntu 13.04
I changed the /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to the following:
then I stop my lightdm and start it again. It does not open anything in tty7. just a blank black screen. I then tired startx instead of service lightdm start .. the gui started but with no launchers or menu or whatever. just the background.
My guessing is that commenting out the greeter-session line in lightdm.conf prevents lightdm from launching the start screen. so I changed the file to that:
but it still does not fix it and I'm still stuck with startx.
does anyone know how to change that ?? I've seen videos on youtube where people have successfully installed Mir and had it fully running with its greeter.
sudo write denied to remote file system mounted with sshfs ubuntu 13.04
- date: June 3, 2013
I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 (raring ringtail) and wish to make backup of my system using Simple Backup. For backup target I desided to use My Book Live Duo (Western Digital).
Mounting disk system is success using
sshfs [email protected]
As user I can read and write the mont point.
touch /var/backup/xxx - OK
sudo touch /var/backup/xxx == PERMISSION DENIED
Simple Backup software uses this command to start :
gksu --description /usr/share/applications/sbackup-config-su.desktop /usr/bin/sbackup-config-gtk
and returns some strange errors
"Unable to create directory for testing purpose: Directory already exists." ==> /var/backup is mount point or soft link to /mnt/backup
"The specified target directory /var/backup was not found" if I remove soft link or do umount /var/backup.
It works fine with phisical directory /var/backup

I'm trying to install Wordpress to run on the local host. My PC is running Ubuntu 13.04. I did a Google search on this subject and came across a number tutorials and tried out two of them, but they both failed.
Would someone have some reliable instructions on how to do this?
How to install old package (libnetcdf6) on Ubuntu 13.04?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 9, 2013
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 from from 12.04 since I was tired of using out-of-date packages. Now I find I have the opposite problem. One of the package I need (libnetcdf6) appears to be no longer supported. When I try to install it, I get the following errors:
$ sudo apt-get install libnetcdf6
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libnetcdf6 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
libnetcdff5:i386 libnetcdfc7:i386 libnetcdfc++4:i386 libcf0:i386 libnetcdff5
libnetcdfc7 libnetcdfc++4 libcf0
E: Package 'libnetcdf6' has no installation candidate
When I try to apt-get the package it says replace libnetcdf6, I get more errors:
$ sudo apt-get install libnetcdff5:i386 libnetcdfc7:i386 libnetcdfc++4:i386 libcf0:i386 libnetcdff5 lib
