Cannot Connect To Internet with Ubuntu 10.04 In VirtualBox
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 20, 2010
I am not sure if this is the right section for this, if it is not please move it. I am new here and also new to the whole concept of Linux. I have Installed Ubuntu 10.04 in VirtualBox and it appears to be working fine but no matter what I do I cannot connect to the Internet. I also have Windows XP running in VirtualBox and this connects to the Internet fine using the bridge connection setting and by choosing the adapter I use on my host PC. If I do this under Ubuntu however it will not appear to recognise the Adapter. My Host PC is Windows 7 32-Bit and I use a Netgear WG111v3 Wireless adapter to connect to the Internet. Using Host only adapter won't work as my adapter is a USB one and does not use an ethernet port. I tried Bridging teh Virtualbox adapter and the Netgear adapter together in Windows so the VirtualBox one had internet access however I still couldn't connect. I have even located the Windows Drivers for the Netgear WG111v3, accessed them through Ubuntu and used ndis wrapper

[SOLVED] updating grub on sabayon8 while dualbooting with ubuntu 10.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 7, 2012
As I understand it there is no 'update-grub' on sabayon8 as it uses grub 1.99 so my latest Ubuntu kernel is not recognised on the boot options page and that page cannot be easily updated.
Would I have to use a text editor to add a line to the /boot/grub/menu.list? If so what happens if that kernel has not been properly recognised by Sabayon, would boot hang or loop?

[SOLVED] Screen resolution settings higher than 800x600 with Ubuntu 10.04 inside Virtual PC
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 3, 2010
This is my first posting as a Linux Newbie. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 inside of a MS Virtual PC on my Vista machine. Everything seems to work beautifully and is stable. However, I would like to use a resolution higher than the current maximum of 800x600. I've poked around on the web and have tried various tips. I tried using the xrandr options which added a higher resolution mode, but when I would try to set the output to that resolution, I would get an error message to the effect that I could not exceed the current maximum of 800x600.
I tried to cobble parameter values together and create an xorg.conf file, but every iteration seems to produce a bunch of colorful vertical bars within my Virtual PC window, and I would have to blow away that virtual PC setup and rebuild it (along with reinstalling Ubuntu).
As I said, 800x600 is not a show stopper, but I would like to take advantage of the real estate I have with my display. These "fifty-five year old&q
