Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-16-*" to type FontStruct.
I've looked at posted threads and they all point to a HowTo posting that is declared to be old and outdated. Obviously don't want to follow the instructions with this caveat. Can anybody advise pleae?
Cannot convert date type YY correctly to YYYY (Y2K problems)
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 24, 2011
I have a Seam/JSF application that has a date field.
When the user types in 01.01.11, it interprets it to 01.01.0011 which is obviously incorrect. The correct value should have been 01.01.2011
Anyone encountered this? How did you solve it? The xhtml is the following:
<s:convertDateTime type="date" pattern="dd.MM.yyyy"/>
'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 4, 2010
I am trying to create a SMB share in Ubuntu 10.04. I am right clicking on a folder, clicking 'Sharing Options', and then enabling the share. When I try to share the folder, I get the following message:
Nautilus needs to add some permissions to your folder "test" in order to share it
The folder "test" needs the following extra permissions for sharing to work:
- read permission by others
- write permission by others
- execute permission by others
Do you want Nautilus to add these permissions to the folder automatically?
I clicked 'add the permissions automatically'. Then, it goes back to the original box and it says:
'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. Invalid parameter.
It prevents me from creating the share. I have samba installed and I haven't changed anything that I can imagine causing this problem. Can anyone help me get this working?

'net usershare' error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name to SID
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 27, 2009
Recently I ran into an error when trying to create a samba usershare using the GUI in Gnome, Ubuntu 8.04 upgraded to 8.10. I use winbind with active directory for authentication and am trying to give active directory users permissions to access the share.
'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: connot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. Access denied.
When I tried it in the command line using the following statement
net usershare add <name of file for remote users> </local/path/to/file> <comments for remote users> <username>:F guest_ok=yes
I would get the same error 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "<username>" to a SID. Access denied.
What worked for me was to lookup the SID with winbind:
wbinfo -n <username>
Which gives me the SID, a string in a format like
If I then add the usershare using the SID in place of the username, like

Cannot mount NFS v3 share in 12.10
- date: December 15, 2012
I have a nfs server (unfortunately v3 but I am working on that), a centos 6.3, a osx 10.7, and a ubuntu 12.10 boxes. I was setting up these machines to access the nfs server. The centos box works fine and I have autofs working on it. I went so far on the osx box to nfs mount the share; still need to do the autofs bit. But, on the 12.10 desktop I seem to have a few issues.
So, here are the steps I used (stolen from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Se...o#NFS_Client):
1. Install rpcbind nfs-common
2. try to mount
:~$ showmount -e fileserver
Export list for fileserver:
:~$ sudo mount -t nfs fileserver:/volume1/home /mnt
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
3. Is statd running?
Cannot mount CDROM No Medium Found
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 11, 2004
I have been using my CDROM for two years without a problem.
mount /cdrom always worked, provided there was a disk in the drive. One day I powered up and the mount command retruned "openfailed" "no media found". I have tried with numerous CD's, all of which mount properly in my dvd drive with
The drive is recognized, the file /cdrom exists and is empty. Physical connections all seeme to be ok.
fstab entries for the cdrom and dvd are
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 user,defaults,ro,noauto 0 2
/dev/hdd /dvd iso9660 user,defaults,ro,noauto 0 2
The dvd mounts with no problem; the cdromdoes not.
I have tried mount /dev/cdrom and mount /dev/hdc
Unfortunately I don't know what many things I might have done between the last time it worked and the
first time it didn't.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
'Net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "everyone"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 12, 2012
Quick background. I am writing this on Mint linux because it works. (ubuntu doesn't)
The machine I am trying to create a share on was ubuntu 10.10 which worked, however grub broke three times a year for no reason and I had to reinstall once because 9.04 broke it. However I stayed away from 11.04 onwards because the UI was god awful. Now as 10.10 is obselete I am forced to try the latest, so it is running 12.04 LTS
It is a clean and fresh, complete new install via a disk of 11.10 and then an upagrde via the update route.
I have now 44 tabs open with possible solutions to fix the issue. Absolutely none of which address the actual writing in the error message.
None of which come close to fixing the problem and the error message persists.
I have used linux since 8.04 and this is the last incarnation that I will be using as it is now bloated and broken. And I can't stand the god awful new UI that gets shipped with it so unless they release a version of quick way to remov
Cannot install grub after upgrade to 12.10 (fake RAID1)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 26, 2012
I just finished upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10. I have fake RAID 1. During the install I get a message that grub cannot install on /dev/dm-1 so I waited until the installation is finished and tried to install grub by hand. But I failed:
piglet:~$ sudo grub-install /dev/mapper/isw_ecjaadgfhh_Volume0p1
Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible. Aborting.
After trying several more googled things I tried boot-repair, but it also failed starting from:
sudo dmraid -ay
RAID set "isw_ecjaadgfhh_Volume0" already active
ERROR: opening "/dev/mapper/isw_ecjaadgfhh_Volume0"
Here is boot-repair log.
So after finished 12.10 install, I still did not reboot the machine (without grub I am afraid to do so)
Anybody could help me?
