Best way to convert mkv to mp4 on ubuntu 12.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 14, 2012
Sorry it seems like an easy task and my searches havnt given me much luck, Most of my media is in mkv format which worked fine with windows but since recently switching to linux ive found not everything plays, mostly because of my ATI driver issues, but MP4 works flawlessly. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
*Also not as important but whats the best media server for ubuntu 12.10? considering swapping my windows server for a linux one and tbh i dont need anything to fancy just need it to work well with my PS3. Not sure how i feel about switching it because its working but since trying out some different versions of linux and falling in love with ubuntu i have to admit it has me considering throwing away my windows disks
Cannot upgrade from 0.25 to 0.26. Fresh install of Mythbuntu 12.04.2
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 23, 2013
I did just a fresh install of Mythbuntu 12.04.2. In the MCC, I can select the 0.26 repos, but for some reason I must supply MythTv Development Version Password for 0.26?
0.26 is released. In my earlier install 0.27 demanded a MythTv Development Version Password, not 0.26.
What can I do to get 0.26?
Compiz or that type of Effects, Ubuntu Studio 12.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 7, 2012
Can Ubuntu Studio use compiz? I know Mint can, as that is what I run on the other partition, however, I want to use the low latency kernel of Studio to enhance gaming further. I know the effects will take a toll on performance, but, that is not an issue with my setup. Thanks.

Cannot load more than one webpage/download item on Wifi (Ubuntu 12.04)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 17, 2012
I recently added an Ubuntu 12.04 desktop to our computer collection. Originally it had a wired connection. I first noticed that when I was downloading music from my Amazon account that all of the other computers on our network could not load anything. The download speeds of the other computer had dropped to an abysmal 100-200bps. I thought that it may have been from the wired connection.
After getting an ASUS PCE-N10 PCI-E Wireless-N adapter (after an ASUS USB-13N USB adapter failed to work correctly) the problem still persisted. If two computers are running on the network and one of them tries downloading anything the other computer will lose internet. Likewise, if one begins a download while another computer is downloading anything, the first computer will stop to let the second computer download whatever.
Also, on the Ubuntu computer, if I am downloading something I am unable to load any webpages. Its as if the download sucks up ALL of the connection and won't allow some of it
Cannot install build essentials in 12.04 LTS
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 9, 2012
Okay, so I'm not sure if I should post this here or what.. I'm not terrible at the command line, basically everything I've done I've used it for. But for some reason I keep getting an error when I try and install Build Essentials, only reason I have a desire for it is because I need it to *make install* one of the applications. Here's what shows every attempt I've done.

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

Depends: dpkg-dev (>= 1.13.5) but it is not going to be installed

Cannot access HDDs on PCIe SATA Controller Card Ubuntu 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 5, 2013
OS: Dual Boot Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu 12.04 x64 (running smoothly)
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2
CARD: RocketRAID 2640 x1 PCIE 1x 4 port SATA Controller
HDDS: 4x 1tb Seagate Barracuda SATA
I cannot access my HDDs connected to my SATA controller card. I have run this same setup on either 11.04 or 10.04 (can't remember) and everything worked fine (with native default drivers I believe). This card and all four drives work well in Windows 7 so it shouldn't be a hardware issue unless it is an incompatibility for 12.04 (which I doubt since this card has worked on other versions of ubuntu).
This is what I have tried so far:
-search GUI to mount drives (none found)
-list installed hardware in terminal (SATA Controller is there but no HDDs)
-run Disk Utility and scan file system for new hardware (nothing)
-Installed proprietary driver for card and Ubuntu Server 12.04 (to no avail)
-searched forums for hours

cannot access ubuntu 12.04 SAMBA share from windows 7 using hostname
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 19, 2012
I've been trying for days to get this working, and everywhere I look online it seems no one has a definitive answer, so here is the run down:
I have an external drive attached to my ubuntu 12.04 machine, "nicholas-desktop." I have the entire drive shared over the network via SAMBA. If I try to access the drive from windows 7 by using "\nicholas-desktop" it fails saying it cannot locate "nicholas-desktop." However, if I use the current IP address assigned to my machine by my router's DHCP server by typing "\192.168.2.XXX" I have no problems accessing the share. if I try to ping my ubuntu machine's hostname from windows it fails. The same happens if I try to ping my windows machine, "nicholas-laptop" from my ubuntu machine. Again, if I use either machine's assigned IP address it works fine. Can someone please help me get this working? I don't want any workarounds like setting a static IP, or DHCP reservation, I want to be able to resol
cifs: mount error 12 = Cannot allocate memory
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 25, 2008
I have the following setup:
- Vista Ultimate machine for windows media center (using xbox as an extender)
- VMware server 2 (latest beta)
- Ubuntu 8.04 server 32bits as guest on vmware.
On the vista host, I share a directory by normal file sharing. I mount that share on the ubuntu guest, using cifs. fstab line:
//media-center/media /media-center cifs rw,uid=walto,gid=users,credentials=/etc/media-center.credentials 0 0
When the vista machine boots, I can mount this share and work with it fine.
I use hellanzb on ubuntu to download nzb files. All the downloading is done on the ubuntu filesystem, but the finished files (after par2 and unrar) go to a dir on the windows share, so my media center can pick them up.
When it starts copying the data, after a while, I get "cannot allocate memory" errors. So I unmount the share and try to mount it again: no luck. I get the:
mount error 12 = Cannot allocate memory
I have to restart windows to resolve this. And i
