cant burn anything, nautilus says blank, k3b says no media
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 18, 2009
I've looked in these forums, looked in google and couldnt find anything useful for my situation, maybe someone could shed some light here..
I want to burn an ISO image, so I pop the blank cd in the drive, nautilus says its blank, go to K3b and he says "No Medium Present", so I give it a few seconds to see if it just hasnt noticed... nothing, couple of minutes, nothing. So I go to gnomeBaker which seems to find the cd, start the burning, finishes supposedly ok, it ejects it and I pop it in again, nautilus says blank cd, K3b keeps saying No Medium Present... so I try to burn with gnomeBaker once again except this time it fails...
here is the output from the second gnomeBaker try:
wodim: No write mode specified.
wodim: Asuming -tao mode.
wodim: Future versions of wodim may have different drive dependent defaults.
wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning: Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits.scsidev: '/dev/hda'

I cant burn CD/DVD in Debian(I tried SW like Brasero...)
I cant burn CD/DVD in Debian Lenny. I tried SW like Brasero, Gnomebaker, K3b. After burning disappear from Desktop Media disc(DVD) icon. When I click on "mechnics cd/dvd" in "computer" icon so I get message "there is probably no media in drive". But DVD disc in still in mechanics. According to me is it system problem. Burning programs works correct. Here are log from log files.

Cannot Burn DVD K3B freezes
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 12, 2011
I was having problems burning DVD with 10.4 and couldn't get it worked out so I did a fresh install of 11.10. Then installed K3B and burned 1 DVD successfully. The next try K3B froze at 50%, and after that it froze as soon as I click burn.
I thought maybe it was a hard ware problem so I bought a new Samsung DVD. Tried that and K3B froze at 85%, and now freezes as soon as I click burn, same as before.
I've also tried Brasero, it never gets past calculating check sum. Same thing if I just drag files onto the DVD.
I've uninstalled and reinstall K3B several times. Also used apt-get purge and then reinstalled. No luck.
Read the "Mulitmeida & Video HowTo" and numerous threads, nothing has helped.
Anyone have any ideas?
ubuntu wont burn dvds, k3b, brasero, ect.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 25, 2010
Few nights ago I got brasero to burn a dvd worked fine the first time but with some problems.
one it had to convert my avi to mpeg 2 which took 45 minutes avidemux can do that in a few minutes.
two after that, any dvd I burnt would have lag in the the play timing.
maybe brasero will work in a roulette sense but I definitely don't want to wait 45 mintues to convert an avi to mpeg file when the burning process is actually faster.
I've googled, burn DVD ubuntu countless times everyone seem to have a problem with k3b or what have you. I've also youtubed burn dvd ubuntu people seem to parade false tutorials only showing k3b's gui interface but being ambiguous as to its operations.
I've exhausted all sources is it possible that ubuntu simply cant burn dvd media very well? anyhow I guess Im asking is there any truly successful dvd burning software.
I mean DVDs specifically not iso or CDs. *shrugs
as a side note this is a very frustrating process it

I am running Intrepid and can not burn a dvd. I receive an input/output error when attempting to use either Brasero or K3B to burn. Below is the error output from K3B. I used to be able to burn under 8.04. Any suggestions as to the problem and how I might fix?

ISO burn with k3b question
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 12, 2009
k3b not recognizing medium. i.e when blank DVD CD is in drive reports no medium present. When I go to settings+config+devices I see yes on CD-R CD-RW but no on DVD. I realize that may not be relevant but just attempting to give as much info as possible. Please advise

Cannot burn with K3b
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 30, 2009
My first use of K3b to copy an iso image.
I have looked around by Googling 'How to' but I think I am doing everything right.
I have the image on the desktop, I have tried two ways.
Open K3b and click on Burn CD image, then navigate to iso file and magically it shows it to be looking for the md5sum which is good.
Then I tick verify written data, alter dropdown to read Image type ISO9660, but the Start button remains greyed out.
Alternatively, I have left K3b closed, clicked on iso file on desktop and magically K3b opens and runs through the md5sum check automatically, the start button remains greyed out.
Is it me or is it a fault ?
The Burn Medium asks for me to insert an empty Medium, although there is a blank already loaded. And it has already recognised the blank disc earlier
