Moved HD into better box and cant install Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 5, 2004
I was running FC1 on a 200Mhz P1 Dell, 64 RAM out of a 4GB Matrox HD. I got a better computer with 190 RAM and better Processor (366 Mhz...I know is still a goat, but It's all I can affortd). So here's what I did:
1. I moved the Matrox 4GB HD into the new box as a master, kept the 2GB HD in the new machine with windows partition as a slave. The video, ethernet and sound card from my old machine got moved into the new one.
2. I set up the CMOS-BIOS to AUTO all the way through...and set it to boot from CD-Rom.
3. Now comes the funny part. I try to boot from the Fedora C1 disk 1, and I cant...the machine gives me a...Disk error, isolinux error. (The disks are fine...)
So I let it boot from the hard-drive, and even though the motherboard, chip, memory, are different, fedora boots up perfectly fine. Wonderful, isn't it ?...but I am afraid that at some point is gonna crash. So I look at my hardware, and the second drive is there, but it is recognized as
Cant install ubuntu secure remix 12.10: No root file system is defined
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 12, 2013
I'm trying to install ubuntu secure remix 12.10. I have pre-installed windows 8 on my Asus zenbook and i want to be able to dualboot with the two os. I'm booting from the live usb and when i try to install by choosing the installation type "something else" i get the following error msg:
No root file system is defined.
Please correct this from the partitioning menu.
So i assume i need to create some kind of boot partition for ubuntu. In GParted i see many partitions but i don't know what to do as i'm new to this. A screenshot of the installation window and the gparted is in the attachement. Pls advise me of what to do Thx!
