Quick question - will CentOS i386 recognise both cores on a Pentium D? I'd prefer to use 32 bit than 64 if it will still perform as well

Iam trying to install SuSe Linux 10.0 on a P4 machine.
The first screen says that "About to install 32 bit OS on a 64 bit Computer". Does that mean my computer is of 64 bit architecture.
I already have RHEL WS5(32 bits)installed on this machine, can somebody tell me how can I find out whether this machine is 32 bit or 64 bit arch.

Check if a running process is 32 or 64 bit
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 13, 2015
How can I determine if a specified process is 32 or 64 bit on Windows, Mac and Linux.
On Linux and Mac I have a pid of the process. I am thinking that if the system itself is 64 bit then the apps should be 64 bit, same with 32 bit. But I heard that 64 bit Linux and Mac can also run 32 bit applications. What can I do to be sure?
On Windows I have a Handle to the process. Currently I am using IsWow64Process. Is this correct? (Edit: yes it is correct but needs to be used with GetNativeSystemInfo to see if the OS is 64 bit).
EDIT: For Mac see this question.

how to check a linux file(.so) is of 32 or 64 bit from windows machine
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
For Checking whether a particular windows dll is of 32 or 64 bit, reading PE header will yield the needed result. But there is a need to find whether a linux file (.so) is of 32 or 64 bit.
When searched, found linux shell scripts or commands which help to find this information. But we need to find this from a windows environment. Any windows commands or code which runs on Windows OS should be able to provide this info.
Mac OS X Lion host, Latest VirtualBox, Pangolin Guest 32 or 64 bit?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 26, 2012
I've got a 2011 MacBook Air running Lion, and the latest VirtualBox. I'm looking to perform a new Ubuntu install using 12.04 (Pangolin). I'm just wondering, should I go with 32-bit or 64-bit in the guest? I know VirtualBox will do both, but I confess I still don't understand the practical issues/differences/tradeoffs.
Really I just use the Ubuntu VM for light development-type stuff (say scripting, like Lua or Python) now and then. I'm probably more concerned about battery usage than raw performance.
Advice? Is there a big page somewhere that will explain all the trade-offs to me?

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 28, 2011
Should I select 32 or 64 bit version of 11.04?
I've been using 64 bit Karmic and Maverick but I see Ubuntu recommends the 32 bit version of 11.04. How come they recommend 32 and not 64 bit? Which one is best?
32 or 64 bit Ubuntu for Acer Revo R3700
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 21, 2012
I need to install Ubuntu on an Acer Revo R3700. Will the 64 bit version work on it or should I use the 32 bit?
I think I'll need version 10.04 or 10.10, so won't be able to use the latest version.
Also, can anyone point me to all the required drivers for the R3700 and how to install them?
