I pressed ESC and ended up at GNU GRUB version1.97~beta94
I tried booting from both OS choices

Okey so I wanted to install linux mint 10 on my external hard drive. I inserted the live cd and after starting up there was an icon that said install linux mint which I used to install linux mint. ( I guess that this means I installed it with wubi right?).
After installing it and removing my hard drive windows 7 did not want to boot anymore this error message came up error: no such device found ( and then some numbers and letters) grub rescue> . Now I managed to repair grub on the external hard drive ( I don't know if it is grub2 or grub). So when I boot the computer without the external hard drive It shows me the error and when I plug in the external hard drive it gives me the choice to boot from linux mint 10 64-bit and windows 7. Now Windows 7 works but in order to start it I would always need this external hard drive and also I did this on my sisters computer and she definately does not want to have that external hard drive to boot the computer and choo

I've been having a lot of problems with Ubuntu on this laptop. I've had to reinstall it like 3 times already and each time only lasts a week before another problem comes up. Anyway, if possible, I'd like some help fixing this instead of having to reinstall again. I ran Boot-Repair once and that didn't fix it, here's the information from my boot.
The problem it says is that there's no such device when I boot up, even after I tried using Boot-Repair to fix it. I don't know much about Ubuntu, but I was reading other posts with the same problem and I tried "sudo blkid" (not sure what this does to be honest) and the UUID shows up on there, the same one that Grub says doesn't exist.
GRUB Error No Such Device etc.

I had a solid dual-booting machine of Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on my ASUS Eee PC netbook but I've hit an issue...
I installed Burg and when I re-booted I get the GRUB error message:
error:no such device: 74ef5b4a-1215-4460-b67d-9994f72fa678
Entering rescue mode....
Most of the solutions lying around involve inserting the live CD etc. but I'm, obviously, unable to do that as I'm on a netbook without a CD drive. Any solution guys? Thanks in advance!
error: no such device after install

I have made a serious blunder while trying to install Ubuntu 12.04. on my HP G5000 laptop.
I had a sata hard disk plugged into a USB docking station while I was downloading Ubuntu 12.04
to a disc. Somehow I got 12.04 on the new disk and now, when I start up the laptop, the following error message
error: no such device : C4d5732d - 3c18 - 4818 - 86e2 -bca076dd9929
and it won't boot up to Windows Vista or Ubuntu.
However, if I plug in the sata hard disk docking station, I get the GNU grub version 1.99-21ubuntu3.9 boot option screen
Ubuntu, with Linux 3.5.0-25 generic
Ubuntu, with linux 3.5.0-25 generic (recovery mode)
previous Linux versions
Memory test (memtest86+, )
Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)
Windows Vista (loader) (on /dev/sda1)
Windows Vista (loader0 (on /dev/sda2)
I can choose either vista or ubuntu and they will load OK.
How do I rectify this please?
Thanks in anticipation!!

Grub error, no such partition?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 19, 2011
Hi, I bought an Asus K53SJ last week and installed an Ubuntu partition yesterday. For some reason this caused my AKT0100 driver to screw up and P4G stopped working. To try to fix this I restored the windows 7 factory defaults using the recovery partition, only replacing the windows partition, keeping the ubuntu partition. When I did this, the 'windows' option on the boot screen failed to initialise windows so I thought I'd just reset the whole thing and try installing ubuntu later. So I did a recovery partition of the whole HD, including the ubuntu partition. Now when I start my computer I get the message:
error: no such partition
I tried restoring the windows bootloader according to this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1014708, by downloading a win 7 recovery disc, but the DVD (it's a DVD-RW if that's at all significant) won't boot when I start up the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before this happened, I have both window7 and Ubuntu 12.04 on my notebook. I have some problem about Ubuntu update. So I choose to move to Ubuntu 12.10. Then I install Ubuntu 12.10. But I forget to install alongside window. So my window recovery partition was gone. I'm usuing Toshiba protege R835-p56x that have window license on it and I need that recovery partition back. So I tried "testdisk" to restore that partition. I did a deep search then I load "HDDRECOVERY" partition that I think it is what i need back. After I finish it and restart. Then my computer cannot boot. It shows "error no such partition. Grub rescue>". Please help me to solve it. I want the recovery partition back. I want to install window 7 and then Ubuntu alongside it.
Please help me
