GRUB error 15 file not found
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 10, 2009
Hi, I just installed BackTrack 4 on my laptop, along with ubuntu 9.10. and XP Pro. the installtion of BT4 went fine, but when I went to boot into Ubuntu, it gave me error 15. file not found.
I can still boot into windows and BT4, but not 9.10.
I think this may be because the installer for BT4 is the same one used in ubuntu 8.10. How can I fix this?

Hi All, thanks for vewing my post. Appreciate Ubuntu created by lot of people working for free so appreciate any help you can spare.
Have a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. 1GB RAM and 1 Ghz processor.
Has a working install of Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4
OEL uses Grub version 0.97
My OEL install works well and I do not want to make any changes to it such as upogarding GRUB to a later version etc.
I have installed Xubuntu mini and this completed without a problem.
I have a single hard drive.
I went into OEL and mounted the Xubuntu root drive so I could see the /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
I copied the entries for the main xbuntu kernel etc and pasted them into my OEL grub.conf.

Grub Error 15 Dell Inspiron 530 w/Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 29, 2007
This is a solution to a problem I encountered yesterday: a boot error after an Ubuntu software update that installs kernel 2.6.20-16-generic. This occurred on a Dell Inspiron 530 with pre-installed Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) This update became available on Sep. 27,2007.
After installing the update and attempting to reboot, grub displays:
Error 15 File Not Found
The problem is caused by this entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic ...etc
The problem is corrected by simply removing "/boot" from the path. When grub delivers the error, press enter to see the menu list. Then press "e" to edit the kernel that you normally boot into (Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-16-generic). Now use the down arrow to select the line that begins with "kernel" and press "e" again. Use the back arrow to go back to the beginning of the path and delete "/boot" so that i

I am trying to restore my system to Ubuntu 10.10, using a system backup made with REMASTERSYS.
When I reboot, I get the message:

I'm trying to install unbuntu on a partition of my thinkpad T410.
I created a USB with the live image 64-bit amd. The problem is that when I use the USB to boot, I get:GRUB loading
And that's where everything stops. I tried two different images:
There are other ideas on here with this error, but they involve a started installation. This won't even go forward.

grub error 15

Just ran rescatux again after posting this, and did not fix, instead of grub 15 error, it got past that and then gave me "the disk drive for /windows/c is not ready yet or is not present - press s to skip or m for manual recovery".
I then ran the automatic fix from a Suse 11.2 disk. It had a lot of errors through the process, but seams to have fixed the boot problem. For now.
This started with a dvd swap. Gigabyte GA K8NS 939 ultra mother board, has 4channel pata, and 4channel sata. 2 Sata HD, 1 pata HD, 1 pata dvd, 1 sata dvd. Tried to replace pata dvd with new sata, but could not cdrom boot through sata channel, so, I put the pata dvd back, then grub 15 error. Been trying fixes including Suse disk. After aborted Suse fix, it booted again. Then last night, I removed the 3 HD's and put a different empty 500gig HD in and installed Mint 13 on it. I then took it out and replaced the original 3 HD's and now get the same grub 15 error. Tried fsck, and replace/install grub with t
