How do I run testdisk on Ubuntu live CD?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 6, 2013
I have searched and followed lots of tutorials and can't seem to run testdisk. I tried installing it with sudo apt-get install testdisk and I have made sure the services.list file doesn't have the universe repository reference commented out and even tried installing universe repository form the command line but I still get the cannot locate packed error: "E: Unable to locate package testdisk" when I try to install testdisk.
Basically what I would like to do is run testdisk from a live ubuntu cd. I am trying to recover files on a windows xp laptop.

Ultimate Debian Live CD asks for Login and Password

After the boot process completes and presents a choices Menu,

choices list as near as I can remember...
What comes next is that it requests
Login .......
Password .......
This is a ludicrous idea for a Live CD
I have used Ubuntu Live CDs and not had any
of this nonsense.
I cannot find any information in any text files on the CD,
neither can I find any information on
http://debian-live.alioth.debian.org -->> Debian Live Home Page
Is there some secret to this or are the developers just playing silly games?
If anyone has a solution I would like to hear it.
Many thanks.
GNUstep live CD for sparc as a rescue disk
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 25, 2010
Hello,
I am looking for a rescue CD for an UltraSparc Sunfire V210 server, and the only live distro for sparc I found, was GNUstep live. My problem with GNUstep live cd is that I cannot get root access no matter what. I googled the subject to death and everybody claims that its a passwordless distro and performing a simple 'sudo su' should do the trick. Unfortunately this is not the case when I try it. Issuing the 'sudo su' command I get a few warnings and then it asks the password for the user account "me". I tried a few simple passwords but nothing seemed to do the trick.
Anybody knows how to tackle this problem. Or even better, are there any better distros to suggest as live rescue CDs for UltraSparc CPUs? Something that can support zfs would be ideal.
Thank in advance
