[SOLVED] Success running GParted 0.15.0 Live HD using LILO
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 24, 2013
The online documentation for GParted Live on Hard Disk shows how to use Grub for dual booting.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to use LILO instead?
Here is how I used LILO instead
Download the gparted-live...zip file from:
http://gparted.org/download.php
In this case I downloaded gparted-live-0.15.0-1-amd64.zip
Create an partition of 256MiB.
Lets call it /dev/sda2 for this example.
Here is how to create an LBA FAT32 partition though other file systems will
work too.
If you don't have GParted, use fdisk and make the partition type "c".
And again if you don't have GParted make a dos filesystem on the partition:
mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/sda2
Create directory /a2 and mount the partition there:
mkdir /a2
mount -t vfat /dev/sda2 /a2
Unzip the gparted download file into the /a2 directory:
cd /a2
unzip gparted-live...zip
Edit the /etc/lilo.conf file:
# GParted bootable partition config begins
image = /a2/live/vmlinuz
root = /dev/sda2

Backtrack Live & Ubuntu Persistence Dual Boot
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 21, 2011
Basically the question is is it possible????
Good Day Everyone:
Here is what I want to do, iso's ready and waiting to be installed after your help here hopefully.
I have a external hdd that I want to use it for Ubuntu and Backtrack together.
I need a Backtrack 5 in there as a Live CD so the settings of the Backtrack goes back to its original settings every time that I start it. In addition, I want to have Ubuntu installed in there as well but NOT as a Live CD perhaps as a Persistence Ubuntu so the folders and packages that I install stays there all the time. However, I also want both OS to be bootable in any machine. You guys know what i mean, start it from usb and there you go u have two OS to chose from.
The external HDD is big enough no problem with that.
So since I want to dual boot them together, I am not sure which OS i should install first on the harddrive. When the computer is starting I want to plug that usb HDD, and start the machine from the external then

[SOLVED] Cannot boot from Live DVD with Dell XPS 17 into Mint, Ubuntu or Fedora
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 19, 2012
Hi,
I've tried to install Linux Mint 12 (DVD, 64-bit), Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) and Fedora 16 (64-bit) on a new Dell XPS 17 (L702X), which came preloaded with Windows 7. I've tried booting from a USB drive, using "Universal USB Installer". In all cases, I restart, then select USB in the BIOS.
For Mint and Ubuntu (both in normal and "compatibility mode") the boot stalls at:

Going from intel to AMD CPU/MB; Will Ubuntu start if I swap the disk the HD?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 21, 2008
So I am upgrading my father in law's machine from an Old P4 to a newer AMD 5000.
If I just pull the disk out of the old box and into the new one, is Ubuntu (Feisty) still going to boot/work, or am I better off reinstalling everything from scratch ?
Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 6, 2012
If you were going to get one which would it be and why? Ubuntu looks cool on the 7 but probably something I wouldn't use. I'm accustomes to regular android on my phone so that's another selling point for the 7. Then again the hdmi out on the fire hd is really appealing as well as the supposedly awesome wifi. My android phone barerly works on wifi where i would primarily use the tablet but my laptop,ps3,and 360 all work in that spot. Also i plan on reupping my prime subscription eventually. How bad is the amazon version of android? Also anyone root a fire hd yet?
please wait...
