[SOLVED] ubuntu 10.10 64 bit wired connection ok in live CD, not after full install
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 24, 2011
Thanks to anyone willing to help me. Did search, tried installing drivers, no luck.
I'm a Linux newb, but have successfully installed and run (all 32 bit) Mandrake, Ubuntu, Fedora and Puppy Linux on other machines. I know just enough to be dangerous but I found I like Ubuntu the most so...
I just built up a computer and want to run Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. I partitioned the drive in 2 equal sections, installed Windows 7. When I boot in the Ubuntu CD following POST, I originally had some very weird issues with the mouse acting erratic - jumping around and creating windows at random - almost like the scrolling action was a command to open a window.
Frustrated, I decided to try Fedora 14, 64 bit. I did not have the mouse issues, so I installed it to the HD (including swap partition). However, I could never figure out how to get the network adapter to work following full install.
Yesterday, I decided to give Ubuntu 10.10 64bit another try. I booted,
Ubuntu 10.10 live cd immediately giving a blank screen

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to Linux in general. I've used Mint a couple times to try to recover my old computers, but I only worked with it as long as I needed to. Now, I'm going to give Ubuntu a try so I downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and burned it to a DVD. When I try to boot it up with the DVD in, it does the startup screen that I'm used to before it loads the actual OS, and then it just gives me a blank screen. The only way to exit is to shut down the computer. Hoping someone can help me! I will provide any other information thats needed to help
Thanks!

Problem with almost brand
new laptop Hewlett Packard g62
Hello ALL
First of all, I am not new in Linux, but I am feeling now as stupid as I felt the first time I was dealing with this lovely OS.... there is allways a new challenge to solve...
I´ve been trying since a week or so just simply install the last version of Ubuntu 10 and the Ubuntu 9, but without success.
I could not even start with a live CD. I even created a USB a start from there but same situation.
The facts are that, ubuntu Cd or USB loads, it shows menu and let me select install or try ubuntu, then starts processing. and then gets stuck with a blank screen ( dark, actually )
I try to find in the F4 option to start with "safe graphics mode" but this option is not there.
Any suggestion please very welcome, I am feeling paranoid...heeelp

Ubuntu 9.10 wallpaper or graphics card problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 2, 2009
Hello all;
I have been reading the latest posts related to Ubuntu 9.10 and its error with graphics cards.
I have an ATI Radeon 9200 SE win 128 MB RAM, and I am having a problem I have not had in previons versions of Ubuntu.
I installed the new 9.10 version from the CD formatting the partition. Everything went of in the instalation, but now when I start Ubuntu, I get it to run, and I can see both Gnome bars, but I can not see the wallpaper or the icons in the desktop, the system seems to run, but the screen can not display the wallpaper or icons. If I open some window from the menu, it also works.
Is anyone suffering these problems? Does it have anything to do with my graphics card?
Thank you all in advance,
best regards,
Alberto

How to install games for windows live in the same wine prefix as steam?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 6, 2012
I'm looking for help on how to install games for windows live in the same wine prefix as I installed steam in. I am looking to play Fallout 3 through steam and I am following this guide: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...sion&iId=14322 ( Scroll down to get to the how-to ). I have been able to follow all the steps except for installing games for windows live. I installed steam with winetricks so it's in it's own wineprefix. So how can I install games for windows live in that same wineprefix? Thank you.
Nvidia Geforce only detected on live CD
location: linux.com - date: November 13, 2009
I've got a bit of a wierd one here. I've got a Geforce G102M video card on my laptop which is recognised when I run the live CD but when I run Ubuntu (9.10) it doesn't seem to recognise that I need proprietry drivers any more therefore I can't set up my card.
Anyone else get this problem or know how I can get around it?
I'm only a newbe but willing to learn so don't be afraid to ask for more info or give me a complicated solution.
Thanks guys
